    Hi,

I bought this ASUS UX32VD in early March and did not have any problems for almost a month.

    WINDOWS 8 PRO
    10 GB RAM

Usually I do not turn off the PCs, just use the sleep mode... which is normal I think :)

Then out of a sudden, the laptop start to fail when resuming from SLEEP MODE - the splash screen just loads, then freezes for a minute or two and then BSOD with "driver power state failure"

I have struggled to identify the problems for a week, without any success, so that's why I decided to start from the beginning:

    1) Clean Instal from the recovery disk - SAME BEHAVIOR ( BSOD with "driver power state failure" upon resuming)
    2) Flash the latest BIOS (v.206 I think) - SAME BEHAVIOR
    3) Update all drivers from vendor's site (just nVidia drivers were pulled from nvidia site) - Still the same
    4) Disk scanning + memory checks - No problems found
    5) Scanning with additional driver utility programs - some newer drivers were installed - STILL SAME BEHAVIOR ( BSOD with "driver power state failure" upon resuming)

The minidumps show that the BSOD is associated with ntoskrnl.exe and bug check code 0x0000009f.

Within the Event Viewer there is a warning related to ntoskrnl.exe:
"The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device ACPI\ACPI0008\2&daba3ff&3."

ACPI\ACPI0008 is associated with the Light Sensor, which I cannot disable in any way ...

In addition there is another type of warnings which are also related with the power management:
"The speed of processor 1 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report."

I am attaching the minidumps, so that you can check them too.

    MINIDUMPS: http://sdrv.ms/16XIuiw

Hope that someone can help me resolve this issue.

    thank you in advance

    Hey primoto

Did you remember to install your chipset driver before installing other drivers? This is a common issue, and it usually has to do with the driver for the ACPI power management controller.

I am not sure about this - I think that the chipset drivers were installed with the recovery installation of the OS....

but I will definitely run once again a clean install and the first thing that I will do after flashing the latest BIOS will be to check what is the status of the chipset drivers and if they are not installed to start with them ...

    thanks!

You can try updating the chipset driver with your current install, but as a general rule of thumb, it's best to update that first. Good luck!

Not sure what the WudfRd driver does exactly, but it seems to be fairly common.

Additional info on what it's for.

yes, I know that there are multiple reported issues associated with this WudfRd driver, but they are either related with different other drivers or do not provide any hints how to overcome this ...

Only way to overcome it is to find out which driver/software is causing the BSOD. You can analyze your minidumps using third party programs or the Windows debugging tool in an effort to narrow down the problematic driver or software. Otherwise, you're looking at uninstalling one driver at a time until the problem doesn't come up again.

Any news on this? I have the same problem, although somewhat different in terms of what causes it.
Below is the report I got from WhoCrashed:

Anyone help to help me out on how to interprete this?

And which third party programs are helpful with analyzing the minidumps?
I don't even know exactly what minidumps are and how to proceed, but I'm thankful for any help here, this is the second time this error occurs and last time I ended up sending my notebook back and buying a new one. (ux32vd again)

I am pretty frustrated with this notebook, I gotta admit...

WhoCrashed is okay, but doesn't outline more specifically what the causality is. You can try the Windows Debugging tool; I haven't used it myself, but someone on reddit informed me that it and another application offer a lot more when it comes to outputting the interpretation of the error.

Other than that, you'll have to eliminate the problematic driver by process of elimination, I'm afraid.

    Thank you for your answer!

I'll try the windows debugger tool. Do I need to install windows driver kit and win symbol packages as well, or is it simply enough to install the debugging tool itself? The microsoft site was a bit confusing to me on that point...

You may want to try the latest BIOS 214:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download UX32VD

Also test to see if crash is causing by wireless card drive resuming from sleep mode:

    1: Go to device manager

2: right click and disable wireless card (should be Intel 6235).

3: test wake from sleep mode with wireless driver disabled.

    Thanks for your reply!

Well, it is a yellow exclamation mark on something called USB-IF xHCI USB Host Controller (Type: Intel WiUSB) I've tried several times to click on "update driver" and it says "Driver was successfully updated" or something like that, but the exclamation marks is still there. What exactly is that, and what is it for? The exclamation mark has been there all the time, and I have my doubts on that being the cause of the error.

I found the wireless-card as well (Intel 6235 indeed), but the thing is, the error doesn't appear coming from sleep mode, it just comes randomly (although I haven't seen it since yesterday morning), so by disabling the wireless-card I won't be able to go online. I'm not sure how to "lure out" the error to check which driver is faulty. But should I update the driver for the wireless card?

I think just the debugging tool should do it. A lot of that software is meant for software developers, to ensure their product works with Windows. :)

For WiUSB download the latest wireless display driver should solve the problem:

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Se...logies&ProductProduct=Intel®+Wireless+Display

Or use Intel Driver update utility to update all Intel drivers:

    Intel® Driver Update Utility

Disable wireless card is just for testing purpose see if it's the wireless driver causing the problem.

    Hello,
I had the same problem when I shut down the screen my windows doesnt wake up, I do also have problems while booting window 8, going into windows lasts lot of time(like 5 or 8 minutes).
    1) I restore the notebook.
    2) I update the bios to 214 version
    3) I erased the partions due to I thought the problem was the partitions (big error).
    4) I try installing through the sdd of 24 gb the windows but my windows installer doesn´t recognize the solid disk as a formated disk.
    5) Finally I install a clean windows in the 500 gb disk with the drivers but the problem persist.
    6) I test my disk, my memory, and there isn´t any error.

The big problem is that I'm living in Argentina and asus waranty doen't work in here. So I went to Asus in argentina, but I should pay.
They told me that I should bought the restore disks due to restore the machine, and that in that way windows will be installed in the ssd.

So I want to ask if anyone could send me the iso of restore disks, I'm a little bit desperate.
Or anyone have any idea, acually I could not use muy computer.
    Please help
    Gerardo

    A little update from me..

The error proves most visible for me in that I can't shut down my notebook correctly..it tries to shut off, but goes to a black screen and takes forever to power off....so I just have to hold in the power button in the end.

Everytime I cold boot and open firefox, it works for 2 minutes and then suddenly firefox doesn't answer for a long time (15++ mins), and then nothing works except that I can move the mouse around and I have to hold in the power button in the end. Same happens if I open up Devices & Printers folder to do some troubleshooting

Ironically, it works "fine" coming from sleep mode (so, perhaps I don't belong in this thread).
EDIT: A bit too hasty on that point. When I close the lid, it seems to go in sleep mode (I have to type password when opening the lid) but the notebook gets very hot when in "sleep mode". So I can't really be in sleep mode can it?

I'm trying to use Windows debugging tools, but it proves difficult. I tried to open mini dump files, but I wasn't "allowed", said I needed admin rights? , I am admin on this notebook. There wasn't even a password or anything for me to enter

I read somewhere that I have to install the Win Symbol Package beforehand, so I'm trying to see if that works. However, it doesn't seem to install...the progress is stuck at 0% for 20 minutes now and counting....tried it yesterday as well but had to cancel the installation in the end, nothing seemed to happen. Anyone tried to install these packages? How long does it take?

Oh, and also the Intel Driver update utility doesn't work anymore either..it just analyzes and analyzes forever. No results. It took 2 minutes before but I let it run for 30 mins yesterday...nothing

Is it 100% for sure that this is a software error? Last time I encountered this error, I was advised to format the notebook, which I did, but it persisted. Shouldn't a software error be fixed by formatting?
I want to try installing Win 7 on the notebook to see if it helps. However, this notebook came preinstalled with Win 8 without any backup disc (no cd-rom) or anything, so how could I get this Win 8 installation back if I wanted to?

Sorry, about the messy post, just writing down my thoughts... customer service told me to send it back and "try another notebook". I love this screen though...

    Any input is appreciated!

Thank you very much but I have window 8 and I made a clean install.
In fact I continue with the slow booting problem.

I lost the recovery partition so could you please generate the recovery recovery disks for me so I could check if I could fix it with them??

I can't get Windows debugging tools to work to analyze my crash dump files
I use a guide that tells me to install Windows symbol package, so I did.
Then it tells me to go to Win Debug and click File -> Symbol Path File and type in the directory where the symbol package is located which is D:\Symbols
Then I click File -> Save workspace.

    All good so far.

Then I'm supposed to open up the Dump files, but when I go to the Minidump folder and try to open them, it says I don't have the permission to open these files and that I should contact the administrator.
So I have learned that Win 8 "hides" the admin account, so I've followed the steps to "unhide" it, but it still doesn't work. Same message, no permission. All along, windows has told me that the user account I use IS the administrator account. Now I have no idea on how to analyze my dump files.

I have made some changes so that next time it crashes i will have a kernel dump file (it gives me more info right?), but what good is that when I am not allowed to open them?

Until then, here are still my mini dump files:

050113-279593-01.zip - Speedy Share - upload your files here

Would be grateful if someone could help me out.

That's odd. I was able to analyze with Windbg just fine. Although the feature set may make it more confusing to work with than WhoCrashed.

Here is what I got from your minidumps:

    Hello,

I got the same error as described in this thread.

This is how I solved it:

    1. Define that the problem was in the wireless card
    2. Uninstall drivers
    3. Clear network
    4. Disable bridge connection

Now sleepingmode is working normally. Hope this helps someone!

Hi, sorry for reviving this thread again, but I have the exact same problem even after doing a systems check, updating my drivers and reinstalling Windows8.
I have included my dump files and would be really grateful if anyone could help me with this! It's slightly urgent.
