    Hello,

I recently recieved a zenbook prime (ux32vd). I replaced the hard drive with a 512 gb crucial m4 ssd, but now when I press the power button, the computer fails to turn on. There is no power at all. Not even the bios is loading up. This happens on both battery and ac power. The light next to the power button will light up for a split second, then go out.

I've removed the ssd and put the original hard drive back in, and the laptop starts up fine. I'm not sure what the problem is. The ssd appears to be working when I connect it to the laptop through an external enclosure. Is there something special that I need to do in order to power up the laptop? Is something here defective?

    Thanks,

    David

I've never heard of anything like this happening. Can you exchange the HD for an even exchange (or better yet, to REALLY rule the hard drive out, a different model) and try to install it? It sounds like the SATA port may be faulty on the drive. But even so, I don't understand why that would prevent the laptop from booting at all...

Take out the drive see if anything happens with nothing in. I only guess something is opening a circut (some call shorting).

Shoot, I forgot to give an update. I had to take out the spacer in my C300 SSD to allow it to fit into the laptop. And cut down the screws to a shorter length. As soon as I loosened the freshly cut screws, I tried it again and it worked. I think the metal lid on the ssd was shorting out a resistor or other component as some of them are really close to the lid now that the spacer is gone. I put a strip of electrical tape on the lid where the components would be touching and its all good so far.

Thanks for the reply ASUS. By the way, shorting and opening are different. Shorting is when two points make contact. Opening is when two points break, or no longer have contact. Like turning your light on and off. You are shorting the two wires on each side of the switch together when the light is on, and opening the wires when the light is off.
