So I got my replacement UX32VD yesterday.

I ended up putting a Samsung 830 256GB SSD in place of the 500GB HDD. Also upgraded the ram to 8+2GB.

Got a W7 x64 iso from Digital River, mounted it onto USB using MS' USB W7 install tool. Booted up from the USB drive.

But now I keep getting this error when trying to get W7 installed onto the Samsung SSD:

"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition"

I've looked around for solutions but there doesn't seem to be any.

I've used diskpart to format the drive back to a raw unpartitioned state and also used dispart to put disk 0, the integrated 24GB SSD, as offline.

But no matter what, the install won't go through.

Seems like an issue with the integrated SSD perhaps? There's no way for me to disconnect the integrated drive... is there?

Can anyone please give me some pointers?

Okay, I solved the issue. Thought it would be helpful to point out the following...

The problem was the USB 3.0 flash drive I was using. It wouldn't allow me to proceed with the install.

I mounted the same Win 7 ISO onto a regular USB 2.0 flash drive. Installation went without a hitch after I used diskpart to offline the integrated SSD.

So when installing W7 from a USB drive onto an SSD on the UX32VD, try to avoid 3.0 drives and only use 2.0 drives.

I don't understand what you are asking.

I'm just pointing out that if you want to install Windows via a USB stick on the UX32xx, you should try to use a 2.0 one and not a 3.0. The 3.0 stick failed to install even though the same copy installed fine through a 2.0 stick.

You have to use a valid product key, if you're doing a clean install on a computer that already has a legal copy of windows on it, you don't need to buy a new license. You reactivate with the CoA on the sticker (it's on the charger for the UX series usually).

Try to upgrade the BIOS to the latest version. I can't install it even throug a USB 2.0 disk before the upgrade.

Did you do this ahead of time, or after you booted Windows 7 setup?
