I've been looking into buying this notebook as a portable media machine. I want it to be able to do some more intense work if I need it to though.

Does anyone have experience upgrading ULV processors?
Does anyone know where you can buy them?

The reason I'm liking this over the acer timeline is because of the slot loading drive and not-intel gpu. I plan to use it for high def movies both on the laptop and with the laptop plugged into a 1080p HDTV.

Thanks for the info in advance.

It won't be easy upgrading the CPU on the UX50. To access the CPU, you'll have to almost completely disassemble the notebook since there is no back access panel on the bottom of the unit.

I'm not sure if this is the case with the UX50, but most (if not all) other notebooks with ULV processors are soldered to the motherboard, hence can not be upgraded.

Yeah, from what I've been reading elsewhere, I think you're right. I don't have any issues dismantling the whole machine. I've done that many times before on other laptops. But the soldering is probably the case and dealing with that is not an option.

Soldered? Wow that sucks hopefully Asus found a way to think outside the box on this one.

I'm guessing the cost wouldn't be worth the benefit anyways. I'll likely hold out for a good HP coupon and a dv2z or see if the U80 ends up cheap enough. I really need just a high definition media box.

I can live with playing games only on the PC. Heck, I only play an hour a day at maximum.

lol. Even if I wanted to play more, I should really just get a new gpu for my desktop and leave my laptop for superportablehappyfuntime.
