    Hi,

I have purchased an Asus UX550VE laptop today, and while everything was fine while setting everything up, when I started playing games (Heroes of the storm and Warframe), I started experiencing a buzzing sound coming from the laptop, which stays for the whole of the game.

    The symptoms of the sound:

    • Sound is not high pitched, so I don't think it is coil whine. It mostly resembles a medium low electrical buzz, comparable to the sound of a general AC/DC transformer on the street, for example
    • Only appears when something is actively using the 1050Ti, so when the game is being rendered. It is gone while I'm alt tabbed out of the game.
    • I don't think it is related to any of these:
      • CPU or GPU fans, since the buzzing sound appears and disappears instantaneously, while fans have ramping speeds and periods. Fans also audible, the sound is definitely not the fans.
      • Anything CPU related, since it does not appear while only the CPU and the integrated GPU is used (e.g. browsing, installations, anything non game related)
    • Under synthetic load (Aida64 stress test, CPU FPU Memory GPU) , the sounds does not appear at all.
    • When playing games, the sound appears to depend on the GPU usage.(1 = very hard to hear, 5+ quite audible, slightly irritating, 7+ sound clearly audible, definitely irritating) E.g.:
      • When playing Heroes of the storm, the sound is audible 7/10 at the hero select screen
      • When inside Heroes of the Storm game (higher load then previous), the sound is audible 5/10
      • When playing Warframe at 1280*720 (medium settings), sound is audible 2/10, sometimes disappears
      • When playing Warframe at 1920*1080 (medium settings), sound is audible 9/10
    • Sound is still produced when nothing is connected to the laptop.
    • Sound is still produced when the games are run from battery.
Does anybody have any idea what could be the cause of this sound? Any ideas for fixing it?

I will call both the official repair shop, and the vendor whom I bought it from, and ask them what to do, and ask them to take a look at it under warranty, but I would still like any advice anybody might be able to give.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I have returned and refunded a laptop, since the vendor did not have any more of the exact model.
A few sound clips of the phenomena can be found here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/567yxufmeq3225p/AAAzSOLvjYFBQ9JXOgDw88Cha?dl=0
The most interesting one is the Hollow Knight one, where it is cleary audible that there are 3 sound, 2 of them changing, as I change the graphic settings of the game.

I will keep trying to look for this laptop, because apart from this, it is both beautiful, and powerful enough for productivity, and light gaming, but sadly my unit was faulty.
