I know with Dell or any other large company I could probably just get a new hard drive overnighted, but I gambled and bought an ASUS. So how hellish is this experience going to be? Will they send me a hard drive without me sending in the entire computer?? It's a W7J with a two year warranty I believe. It's one of the ones your not allowed to upgrade.

I coudl replace it myself but I've only had this computer since January 2007. So tell me your support stories. Is it hell?

I'm not an Asus owner but have read many posts about Asus service; they're almost always about the excellent CS received.

Which reseller did you buy it from? I take it that you would have to deal with ASUS through the reseller, no?

Asus sent me a new keyboard no problem. Made a believer out of me.

It's worth a call, but from my experience, their service is second to none.

If it's a W7 then support is directly with Asus as with all Ensembles (unless it's a dealer customized one)

Indeed it's an ensemble so you deal directly with ASUS. You could try giving them a call.

Try running a hard drive test utility from the manufacturer website (make sure it's not another manufacturer, they are not compatible). You might get more details about what is wrong (if anything).

If the hard drive is clicking, it's probably going to physically crash sooner or later. You should just call support and let them know that the drive is clicking, that should usually be enough, although running the drive manufacturer's HDD utility would be extra proof of the drive's imminent demise. ASUS should be able to arrange a cross ship, though you may need to provide a security deposit or credit card number as insurance for them that you'll return the old drive.

If you live close enough take it to them yourself. I live about 25min away from my nearest Asus service center. Both times I've needed things done they have been done while i wait there.

    I'm a believer too

just incase you didnt think of this yourself, id recommend a backup of all your important data asap.

and, as the others have said ASUS has really good support, in some cases they will have it back to you in like 1-2 days ive read.

i almost had to send my notebook in (but i fixed it) and they set up a fedex pickup for the next day, said they would pay for shipping, and it would be to ASUS overnight, so that sounds pretty good to me :)

I have gotten Asus to replace two hard drives that started clicking. They just did a simple cross ship - I gave them a credit card number as collateral, they shipped a hard drive, I swapped them, and shipped the old one back. Simple as that.
