I quite literally JUST brought this laptop back from Best Buy, got it for $1,749.99 plus tax.

Is the GPU SUPPOSED to Idle this hot? I was playing Quake 4 earlier and the thing got pretty damn hot but I didn't notice any heat related slow down.

I'd appreciate any responses ya'll can give. Much appreciated.

On idle, its a bit high, it should be around 46-55 when idling or basic tasks.

When gaming, 65-73 should be the average. Check if your CPU is at full load if its idling.

The system is not under any load whatsoever. Are there any G1S owners out there who can relay to me their temps?

i don't think 76 is a big deal for gpu. if it were cpu, it would be slightly problematic, but some of the newer santa rosa notebooks seem to run hotter than the previous generation.

That alleviated all my concerns. Thank you. I figure the temperature will drop once I'm done with burn in on SiSoft and 3D Mark and the paste sets in.

My GPU idles @ 70C. Laptop GPUs are made to be able to withstand very high temps. Usually I get 85C when gaming for a while.

Thank you for the above reply. I'm just not used to seeing a GPU idle this high. My old 7900Gs GO used to idle at around 56 or so. When I saw this after playing Quake I damn near shat myself!

The asus g1s-x1 from best buy uses a slower processor and has a 1 year warranty instead of 2 btw -.- + tax makes it equal to the g1s-a1. The only advantage is that you get to hold it in your hands the instant you hand over the $$.

BatterySaving mode: idle: 70c, gaming: ~77c
Max Performance: idle: 74c, gaming: ~83c.

Your temperature seems ok to me.

You also get the option to purchase Best Buy's accident replacement warranty thingy. For 2-3 years they'll fix it if you manage to fly into a fit of rage and "accidentlly" throw a cinderblock at it.

No...The A1 has DVI instead of HDMI for one and two I needed a machine now not next week and 200 mhz is really not that big of a deal to me. I like the idea of hooking this up to my 42" 1080p LCD via HDMI.

According to this review the A1 has HDMI as well but show me on those pics where it does

    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3728&review=Asus+G1S

I'm not trying to be difficult mind you I just needed a machine now instead of later on next week and 200mhz is really not that big a deal to me.

Well the G1S-A1 has a hdmi (i'm using it right now), i think your thinking about the G1P that has dvi. The specifications in that review it does state that it has an hdmi port, I think they just reused the pictures from the G1P review.

If you go to the discussion for that review, I believe there are several replies about some of the pictures actually being of a G1 and not a G1S.

    HD: 48 C
    CPU: 64 C
    GPU: 74 C

My HD and CPU seem to be really hot compared to you all, I even have a notebook cooler and the room that this is sitting is about 78 F.

And yes, some of the pictures from that review were from a G1.

That is true Stella, there was a bit of confusion there. Also, the manual for the G1S, or at least the one I recieved, was for the G1P.

I had considered it Korg but Best Buy charges a 15% restocking fee. Frankly I'm happier than a pig in **** with the computer the way it is. Best computer I've ever owned and I would've worshipped my P105-S9722 back in the day if I had the chance.
