So...yea... I'm awing at my new G1S, that just arrived today, browsing forums and thinking "my god what a pretty screen"
AND FLICK! BACKLIGHT GOES OFF! "What... come on..." flicks back on for a split second and then it's gone...
Figured maybe it was a video driver issue, until I noticed I could still see the screen through the glare of my lamp...
What the hell... Has anyone else experienced this kind of thing so early?

Time to call for some warranty work...

I had this problem with another laptop. Something is wrong with your inverter. You'll have to send it in.

Gee, that is so much the same as I experienced years ago with a used laptop I paid $400 for. At the time, $400 was a ton of money, and laptops cost two or three times what they do now. I risked my dollars on a used one, which was a big risk.
I had just bought it, and I'd been loading programs onto it for maybe an hour. Suddenly exactly the same thing you describe happened. I never got to use it for even one moment.
I took it in for a free assessment, and was told the video hardware was gone, which rendered the used machine valueless, as the repair cost would be more than it was worth. The tech guy told me the seller was probably innocent, because something like that happens with no warning at all. As for the seller, he agreed and chose to refund nothing of the $400 I'd given him the previous daya real nice guyI'd spent awhile visiting near Commercial Drive in Vancouver.
At the time, I was dirt-poor, living in my van. It was just a risk I took. I knew what I was doing, but I learned a couple of things anyway. So my suggestion is to deal with the company ASAP and try not to feel too badI doubt it means that either the company or the equipment is terrible, and the sooner you get things fixed, the sooner you'll be able to enjoy your new laptop.
And you definitely can feel very happy that it is a new laptop.
Best of luck. -
Thanks, and I've already sent in an RMA Request/Support ticket to NCIX. They're a great bunch, and I don't doubt them at all.
I'll LIKELY get cross shipping, as I do need this for school, and I've provided pictures as proof. Thanks for the replies guys. -
Yes, that would be DOA. It should be straight replacement as soon as they test it for themselves. I don't believe anyone actually cross-ships laptops, however.
Um... backlight gone after 4-6 hours.
