Just got the G1 and I like it so far but I keep getting this message when I try to get the vista upgrade from this https://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/Vista .

    I keep getting this message:
    Unable to continue.
The tax service is unavailable. Please click here to retry.

If anyone has used this webpage to upgrade to vista then let me know if you might know what this means.

Moduslink is terrible man, I called because I among many many others have had problems with their site, and they are so backlogged they can't even tell me why I am having troubles. They said they have 100,000 unread emails that will take atleast 2 weeks to sort through.

The guy I spoke to said that (at best) they would be shipping out Vista in Mid March if not late April or longer.

What a crappy company, they didn't anticipate as many people upgrading their systems?

I guess we are all in the dark until they sort their problems out, but it sucks for people that PAID MONEY to deal with their scrappy service to upgrade their OS to a DRM infected POS.

    Best of Luck

There is a reason the upgrade is free....... and there are a lot of people (basically ANYONE who bought an XP based computer in the last two months) that are getting, or trying to get their upgrade........ It's all automated and you simply have to deal with it. Most people aren't having problems, but that doesn't mean a LOT of people aren't..... there are hundreds of thousands of people trying to work through that site.

Look into the DRM Issues and other things before you decide Vista's for you. By all means try it, but I know for myself I'd never upgrade....

The new OS is awesome is almost every way.... The only way that it isn't, is in the mere fact that it's different enough that you need to relearn placements of things - however, after a couple weeks, you realize the changes were to make things more logical anyway...... With any new OS there will be bugs and flaws, and those are usually fixed by time they put out the first full service pack....... It took me a couple weeks to get EVERYTHING I use to be fully functional on Vista Enterprise, but I'm to a comfort point.... The only problem is that many people will have problems - I just know how to work through it and I have my own techs on hand if I can't figure it out myself...... Getting the free upgrade is great, I just don't think it's a great idea to install it the day it comes. Just like I'm not looking foward to "vista pre-installed" models either..... Yes, they'll sell well because a lot of people have been holding out, but I think the real value is in the current models with the upgrade........ essentially you get two OS's, a system that works perfectly under the current well worked XP, but it's fully vista premium compatible....... gives you a lot of great options.

I agree. That's why I decided to buy a unit this month, instead of waiting till next month. Hopefully I can get the Vista upgrade without much difficulty as I am looking at the G1 also.

I can understand (because I was like this when maybe a dozen years ago), but when Win95 came out, we already had a computer on order.... same with the release of Win98.... As I grew up I understood why you shouldn't that.... but in another month or so people really won't have a choice. Since we build and sell systems now, there's obviously a transition phase... I personally love Vista (as I've mentioned), but I know that a majority of our customers who purchase systems with Vista preinstalled are going to find it a bit overwhelming. Also, right now we're not sure if Asus is going to go with the x64 version or not... If they do, we might not even order systems because I've seen the issues with driver availability in that situation. However, I can already see it now.... some people didn't want to buy the Core2Duo models when we finally got them in October because they thought it should come with XP64...... so if it comes with the 32bit version of Vista, we're bound to get a handful of people who just want to shout off their mouth about it... of course those people won't understand why it's done, but still.
