I have the g51, and i am trying to do a dual boot with win 7 and XP. The reason i want XP is because all of the motorola and kenwood radio programming software we use at work will not run on vista/7. I also need to use a USB to serial adapter. We do a lot of overseas travel and it gets cumbersome hauling my personal laptop for gaming, as well as a Toughbook for work, so if i could get mine to do work then i only need one :D

Anyway, I had the dual boot working fine it seemed, but after going back into 7, then restarting and going back into XP i got a boot error, something with NTLDR. Everything i tried with EasyBCD would not fix it. I thought maybe it would work better if i just setup XP on my 2nd HD.

So i deleted the XP partition on my main HD, and then rebooted to the XP CD to begin the install on the 2nd HD. Now i just get to "setup is inspecting your hardware configuration...." and it freezes there. Nothing i have tried will fix it.

I tried searching for this on google, and it seems there was a different resolution each time i saw it. I tried a few of the options and it still will not work. I even tried removing the main HD and just leaving my blank freshly formatted 2nd HD in, and still nothing.

    Any ideas?

    Two questions:

First, have you added SATA drivers to XP?

Second, have you considered using Windows 7 Pro? The BIOS supports virtualization on the G51, so you could use XP mode to run your apps.
