Heard undervolting could actually drop few degrees off my notebooks temperature, thus run cooler without having a drastic impact on performance, but one question floats my mind.

As undervolting is software based, does it void the warranty?

I believe it does not void warranty and you can download free programs to undervolt, refer to the G1S resource thread in the Underpower or undersomething section for a guide and the free program

    Also check the Guides forum.

Undervolting won't do much nowadays, since CPU voltage is locked at minimum multipliers, and CPUs are mostly idle except when gaming.

True - undervolting in the CoreDuo and later CPUs will do nothing for idle temps, but will likely reduce temps for higher load/usage.

Undervolting does not affect warranty - worst thing that can happen is that the system becomes unstable, and then you just go in and tick the voltage up a bit. Be sure to either use others' power profiles or conduct stability testing.

For a fantastic undervolting guide in Vista, with step by step instructions, I highly recommend ikovac's updated Vista guide here.

Like I said, CPUs are mostly idling except when we're talking about gamers :)
