Has anyone been successful in finding an update for the A8Jm's nVidia 7600 Go video card?
If so, did you see any improvement over the stock drivers (i.e. added features or higher 3DMark score)
Any reply would be grt, thanx

there are up to date nvidia drivers at www.laptopvideotogo.com. I am using v 84.63 without any problems. They unlock options e.g you decide the number of frames to render in advance - changing this helps a lot in oblivion.

The latest from ASUS for certain notebooks is 85.98. You can either find it from LaptopVideo2Go as radditz said, or on the ASUS site under V6J drivers I think. (I dunno why ASUS doesn't organize their support site properly).. It's listed for V6J, but the INF includes support for various cards including the Go7600.

Thanx radditz and Darrik.
Ya, I hate how nVidia updates their drivers page... so confusing and they need to update it more often. (this sort of thing degrades their customer service ratings, imo, but still not as bad as ATI generally)
BTW, darrik, I got a question for ya. Would increasing the clock on the GFX Core or Memory decrease battery time more? And which program did u use to undervolt ur CPU (I read ur website, but how much "cooler" did ur comp run after the undervolt? i.e. 1-2 deg or more) -
y2b: I used RMClock to do it, but I've seen the new NHC, and looks like it can work quite well too.
Good question on whether or not OC ing the graphics card will decrease battery time.... I"m not really sure, since I didn't measure battery life when I OC'd it (was on AC all the time). But I can tell you that I underclocked it (2D Mode) while on battery and it didn't really gain any, so I'd assume the inverse is quite true and it won't reduce your battery life by much. Just added heat I would assume.
My original temps at regular office use, was about 51-52, right now I'm working around 47-50, depending on ambient temps.... so I'd say 2 degrees on average, but never really measured it properly I guess... -

Honestly, I've played with a lot of drivers for the Go 7600 trying to get the best blend of features and performance. My bottom line driver actually wound up being the one on the ASUS site for the A8Jm. The ones on LaptopVideo2Go are good ones, but the one on ASUS's site seems to have a very good PureVideo implementation, handles new resolutions easily (a couple driver sets I tried wouldn't let me add new resolutions), and seems to handle multi-monitor setups the best.
Performance is similar-to-identical across all of them, though on certain ones I experienced random performance drops for seemingly no reason. I'd boot up a game and it'd run fine, but the next time I'd load it, my framerate would be substantially lower. -
thanx u guys for the replies, I really appreciate it.
Ya, I find the newer drivers (not suppported by Asus) a little buggy... Like while playing CZ, the game would suddenly freeze up... I checked the GPU temp and it was only around 57-58, which isn't hot enuf for the GFX card to freeze up the comp. So I'm guessing that it has more to do with my recent driver update, so I'm gonna revert back to the orginal one from Asus.
I'll try and test out NHC and see how it goes. Hopefully it can add a bit more batt life while on DC, but if not, the lower CPU temp is still good =D (thanx again Darrik) -
OH one more thing, would you guys suggest me to update my BIOS to the newest available version? I heard that 2.08 caused the CPU fan to be on a lot more often, which I do not like... Does the newest BIOS still turn on the fan @ 48deg or did Asus up it back up a bit again? Any other Pros for getting the new BIOS?
Thnx for any reply, Cheers! -
The new BIOS (208 and 210) makes the fan run at low 40's I think, while 207 runs at 49-50... I'm still using the old BIOS just for that reason.... Don't see any real pros of upgrading right now
