Ok. Where to begin. IVe been trying to update my graphics card driver for the longest time, but as you know the ddr3 only works the best as stock driver. Today i found out with riva tuner i could change my hardware profile from 8600m gt to 8600 gts desktop version. This enabled me to insall drivers without modifying the inf files as we ussually do. Because laptop to go site was down i installed 167.26 dirvers from xtreme. It enabled me to overclock the card. Still the driver offered crap preformance. At least its a step into the right direction.

If you want to try your own, post your results here.

Start riva tuner. Go under the low-level system settings. Under graphics adapter identification select coustum. Then select 8600 gts. Install the 167.26 drivers and test it for your self. The only thing this driver lacks is preformance. But I think a diffrent version of a specific driver this time could give preformance and overclock. Try it for yourselfs and post your result.

Sorry about he spelling, grammer mistakes... its 2:30 am here and im to tired.

Never heard this - are you saying only the Asus stock drivers properly take advantage of the higher frequency DDR3 VRAM compared to DDR2 VRAM? I haven't been scanning the forums for a couple of months or so, so I may have missed this before.

i understand you doing that because laptopvideo2go is down for now but when it's up again just use the 169.04 or 09 or 12 drivers with their modded inf.
    you have overclock, dynamic 2d/3d/powermizer.

Using a mobile card like that is just like having a desktop card. So, what's the use ??

Besides, having drivers that works better with a ddr2 card or ddr3 is just a myth. Any driver that works well with a ddr2 card (having the same gpu of course) works better with a ddr3 card.

im using the 169.04 driver with my gddr3 card - that one seems to provide the best performance in my case - 169.09 actually lowered performance a bit and although 169.12 was better, it wasnt *as good* as 169.04

but of course, different drivers work for different setups

I got the Asus G1S-AK005C and my best driver is also the 169.04 :)
First the 169.04 driver gave me vista aero lag but then i did a clean install and the problem was fixed :)

^ i think the clean install of vista does SO much for these computers - i would recommend anyone who just bought one to just go ahead and do a clean install right off the bat - getting rid of all of that bloatware has proven to be invaluable - im amazed at how much the computer has sped up - its almost like a completely different machine!
