Well, I'm not actually updating, I am trying to do a clean install (just haven't gotten to the format partitions part yet), and right when I click on the Install button (from the first window when booting from the installation CD), I get this message here, and can go no further:

Any thoughts on this? I didn't have any of this trouble when I just installed win7 on the desktop I built, so I know the CD is perfect.

Well, I ended up getting it able to work. I had to turn IDE mode to Compatibility instead of Enhanced in the bios. But, general performance in win7 is in general pretty crappy, since it's having to be ran in compatibility mode, and will throw a BSOD right after the windows loading splash screen (which I don't have the time to read before it restarts) if I turn IDE mode back into Enhanced mode in the BIOs...

So, does anyone have any idea what the heck is going on? I don't mind reinstalling windows if it'll solve this issue!

Figured it out. For those of yall having the same issues, though apparently none of yall are due to the general lack of even an "Aw that sucks!"

Anyways, it's a problem with the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. The X83VM-X1 uses a ST9320320AS HDD, and apparently win7 doesn't have the right controller for it, thus the need to turn the IDE mode to Compatible instead of Enhanced to even install windows 7. So it then installs a generic PCI IDE controller, which won't allow you turn back to Enhanced mode without throwing a BSOD (0x0000007B). So what you have to do is download a compatible Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver for Windows 7 (it is 32/64bit sensitive, so make sure you download the right one).

The 64bit Win7 Driver can be found here.

So download and extract the exe to wherever. Open up the device manager, expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers list, and double click on the generic PCI IDE Controller, and go to Driver -> Update Driver... -> Browse my computer for driver software -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer -> Have Disk -> Locate the iaAHCI.inf in the IMSM64 folder of the exe that you extracted -> Highlight the ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller -> Click Yes to the "I know this could screw up my computer dialog box" -> Restart

Then go back into the BIOs and change the IDE mode back into Enhanced, and vola! Windows run 10x faster and all problems solved! Sorry no pictures, was just trying out all sorts of ideas and seeing what worked, but this is exactly what worked for me.

Feel free to ask me to clarify anything that's a little fuzzy.
