I want to update the BIOS of my motherboard, and I have read that there are 3 ways of updating for ASUS.
    1. AFUDOS.EXE
    2. EZ Flash
    3. ASUS Live update

This is the site that gives these information:
How To Update ASUS BIOS | eHow.com

From the user manual I can only see that it explains using Winflash, but I have read somewhere in the Google that this software is not good for updating BIOS. Anyhow I am very concerned of how to do it properly, as I haven't done this before.
Can someone explain which way is more safe for updating BIOS?

The update BIOS file I have downloaded at ASUS is a 224-file, I was wondering if its the right file, as I read there should be ROM file, correct?

    thanks in advance

hi Maro. I had the same issue when I wanted to download the u36sd bios to have a look at it. On Asus' website it said it is 203 version and the bios has a .203 extension. I believe they just put the version number as the extension so you know you have the right one. I am not entirely sure, but I think you could just change the extension to .rom and flash it.

the ROM file is correct, the use version number as extension but no matter what the name of extension is the WinFlash or Easy flash program will recognize it.

Easy flash is safer and you can use put the BIOS into flash drive and update BIOS by using EasyFlash from the BIOS.

As always, it's nice to see resellers helping people here. Use the EasyFlash method as suggested, it really is the safest. Winflash used to have problems, form what i hear the latest version is better but there's still more chances of something going wrong with winflash and you don't want to end up with an expensive brick after all. Do it with the battery in the laptop and on AC power. That way if there is a power failure, the battery will save you from a bad flash.

Follow the instructions in the guide, you'll see it's ridiculously easy.

The EZflash method seems to be completely non-dependent of the computer's operating system. Is this correct?

That is absolutely correct, it runs from the BIOS and generally is the recommended method for updating BIOS.
