Trying to update a bios on a A53U laptop.

EasyFlash recognizes the BIOS files but when I press Enter to flash I get:

    Model name doesn't match!
    Force to update BIOS?
    Yes No

EasyFlash specifies the old BIOS as K43BY. The new BIOS file is
K43BY-215 and was downloaded from Asus's page with A53U drivers.

So what the heck does not match? And should I go ahead and force the flashing?

I guess they appended the 215 revision number onto the bios model string.

If you are sure it's compatible you can force it.

Otherwise ask asus support for verification.

That's what I thought too, but I wanted to be sure, messing up the BIOS is not a good idea.

I did contact Asus, but no reply to date.

It should be OK though -- it does not make any sense if it isn't.

Asus markets the A and K series in different global markets; there is also a companion to the X series, which I forget at the moment. These are essentially identical in most internal respects, including the motherboard.

Asus has always combined BIOS versions between model variants like this - as to why they can't stick to one model line, who knows?

If you aren't having problems addressed by the BIOS update, you really should consider leaving it alone ... brick it by mistake, and you have to send it off to Asus Tech Support for a BIOS reflash.

Have you tried Asus homepage for detecting your model. It gives you the exact path to the drivers you need.

I searched for your model (W7 64bit, if thats the one you use) and it seems the latest one is 215 released on 13.9.2011.

I flashed the BIOS for some months back and I am not having any trouble since that.
