The price seems low, I mean $99?

ASUS sells the V6va LCD for $375 USD with Item ID# 18-241506B10Q, not the same as the one there....

Anyone wanna test it out? :p

Excuse me for asking, but what's the deal with the IPS screen? I keep seeing people drool over it? what does IPS stand for, and why is it so good/pretty.

Basically, IPS means In-Plane Switching, which is easier described as a type of LCD screen that has zero dead angles, so no matter which angle of degree you look at the screen, it will look the same.

Is the V6J the only notebook to have that kind of a screen?

The ThinkPad T60 has an option for it(FlexView).

Correction --- the V6Va was the only notebook to have it, and was a limited import into the US in late '05.

V6j has a regular (but still very good, according to those who know/have it) LCD.

You know thats real cheap for that screen. It may not be IPS because in other parts of the world that model came without it. so hope its the one you wanted.

Let us know if that works. That would be a sweet upgrade if it did.

If you're still wondering what IPS technology is, check out Notebookreview's review for the T60p. Several screenshots compare the Thinkpad's flexview with a Dell's...you'll see the difference right away.

The maker of the IPS screen that was on the V6va's that I'm familiar with came from Fujitu.... and it certain costs more than $100.

It would have to cost more than that much. The screen for my old HP laptop cost $300, and it was low res, not glossy, and just not good. I could see the IPS being $500-$600 easy.

I'm currently looking at an extra V6 lid, just $37 for the lid, then to get it laser etched afterwards :)

I scratched mine, $37 for a new one wouldn't be terrible, would it void my warranty to switch it?

well if you replace it with the original lid, in practice they won't able to tell you did it and therefore there's no way they can void warranty.

Unless there are hidden 'stickers' inside the lid. I'm 100% sure they will not look there, unless there is a LCD problem of some sort, so technically, unless its an LCD repair problem, they will not notice :D

Now to see how to actually open it up....

I see screws on the hinges....!

I'd just send the laptop to your local laptop repair shops. I called one at my area, and they charge $60 CAD to replace the lid and LCD. But hey , if someone can come up with a step by step guide...........

Thats very interesting... I would love to make my v6va into a Lamboghini.

I wonder if I can somehow get hold of this lid in the UK... hmm
