    Hello All,

    I have a ASUS X53U SX181D laptop.
Main configuration of the Laptop are as follow :-
    Processor - AMD APU C-60 (1 Ghz)
    Ram - 2GB DDR3
    HDD - 320 GB
    Screen - 15.6 inches

I am thinking of upgrading my laptop's Ram so wanted your opinion about the same. Basically, I am planning to upgrade my Ram to 6 GB i.e. adding another Ram stick of 4 GB DDR3 capacity but a bit confused whether or not it is worthwhile because it seems it would Bottleneck with the processor.

So, please guide me whether or not to go for the upgrade keeping in mind the price of 4 GB Ram and the speed increase in laptop's functioning.

    Regards,
    Joojo

It wouldn't do anything at all.

The AMD C-60 APU is extremely weak. It's about as fast as a dual core Intel Atom clocked at 800mhz. Even 4GB is overkill for such a weak CPU.

The laptop's motherboard CAN however be upgraded. Any ASUS 53xx motherboard will work with the K53SV's motherboard being the best option. An ASUS K53SV motherboard would do the job if you could find one. It has an Nvidia GT 540m and any sandy bridge mobile CPU of your choice. That means you could shove a 2670qm into it, and expect an insane increase of performance and graphical capabilities.

What OS do you have installed, is it a 32bit version? If so then 4GB is max it will support.

thnxx a lot for your reply ............. anyhow currently I am not in a position to change the motherboard so most likely would stick to the Ram upgrade option itself.

As I said, Upgrading the RAM is absolutely pointless. The CPU is far too weak to accommodate anymore than 2GB. If you upgraded to x64 Windows, you would notice a huge drop in performance due to how weak the CPU is.

It won't do much - if any - good. Upgrading the RAM will most likely be a bit of a waste of money when you weigh what little performance difference it will make compared to the cost of the added memory.

The machine is outdated that's why it's not recommended to perform such upgrade, SSD may be a better choice since it will be a feelable difference because the SATA controller is 6Gbps.
