The GPU is not upgradable. Everything is customizable, but the GPU.

i agree, except the video card, everything can be changed. I know that the bluetooth module, wireless mini PCI and DVD burner already come with.

    Not with the z81 sp.

The gpu on the z81 sp has mxm, which, according to everyone that sells it, makes it one of the few user upgradeable mobile gpus

Well.... yes it does have an MXM design and technically yes that is upgradeable and MXM is a "standard"........ will Asus have a new card available for it? That's something yet to be determined..... I'm also not 100% sure that any companies card would just fit and work in the unit, but techically that is the idea behind it.

... but until there are various graphics card options available from the onset.... we're not going to sell anything as having "upgradeable graphics" because there are too many potential issues.

MXM is definately something I'm waiting for.

However it's not a Standard. Yet.
Having the uption to upgrade the video card would definately boost laptop sales, however, I'm also weary of the technology. would barebones/whitebooks with MXM cause it to be excessively large in size? What about warranty issues? Since laptops are such intricate / complex machines, the manufacturing process for MXM would be quite costly too.

Time will only tell if it ever goes mainstream..
