I upgraded to the sata ul80vt 7200rpm by how much will that affect the battery life? Obviously it's going to I'm getting about 10hrs on a 5400rpm

It depends on the HDD in question. 7200 RPMs do tend to use a bit more power than 5400 RPM drives, but the difference depends on which model drives.
No one can give you a straight answer. -
I installed a seagate 7200 and it dropped my battery life by roughly 6 to 10 minutes

Power usage in current generation 7200 drives has improved greatly over the past couple years and now only have nominal power increases over their 5400 brethren.
However, the performance of the higher (500+) capacity 5400 drives often approaches nearly on par (esp the newest dual platter) with the lower cap 7200 drives, so there isn't the large performance bump one used to get using a higher rpm drive. And you get all the extra space to play around with.
