Just yesterday I was able to find one of these cute little things at the college campus store. They only had the floor model so they offered it to me for $430. I couldn't resist so now I have this netbook, and so far it has perfomed way beyond my expectations. Now I'm looking to some upgrades to it to get it ready for my next term. (assembly language computer science course)

    1. Battery

I'm looking at getting one of the 12000mAh extended batteries. Right now I get about 4-5 hours, but I hope to achieve over 7 hours with the extended battery. Does anybody have any information on these batteries? I want to make sure they aren't a load of crap like many batteries I've bought in the past.

    2. Ram

1gb of ram just isn't enough to even work with some of the engineering apps for school. I don't have much knowledge about what I can upgrade as far as ram goes in this machine, so any recommendations would help.

    3. Hard Drive

I probably won't upgrade the hard drive for a while, but eventually I might switch over to a SSD if the prices start to go lower and they start having a decent capacity. I would need at least 160gb.

    4. Anything

I love getting the most out of any machine I have, so if there is anything else that would get me more power/battery life out of the 1000h I would love to know.

Thanks for any info on the subject.

    1. make sure you get them from trusted firms - not some cr*p off ebay that'll explode the second you charge it.

    2. 2Gb should work OK, i guess you could try using a 4Gb stick, but you might encounter chipset and OS limitations. and it might be cost-prohibitive.

    3. SSD capacities are constantly going up, and prices going down, so this shouldn't be a problem in a year or two.

I'll just comment regarding the battery. I purchased one off ebay and it was bad news bears; be wary.

was it one of those 12000mAh batteries from Hong Kong? If so I might juts make a 12-cell battery myself out of 2 official 6-cells.

Assembly won't take much processing power. :D A graphing calculator could probably run an assembly emulator just fine too lol

I have an 8800mah battery bought from battdepot.ca and it works fine, I get 7 hours with the processor at 100%, brightness on 50%,, HDD running, bluetooth USB adapter, and wireless on. I would not buy the 12000mah battery personally. I would look for the 13000mAh battery from vbatt if I was to buy.

    I have upgraded to 2GB Buffalo DDR2-667, and 320GB Seagate 7200.3.

Chipset will not take 4GB module, don't even waste your time.

Look at using eeectl to control cpu speed, fan, lcd backlight. You can also download eeetoggle to be able to turn off devices using hotkeys 3/4.

Thanks for the help, I'll try the 13000mAh battery, and definitely upgrade to 2gb of ram. I'm doing assembly language this term, but I still will need to compile in the future using eclipse and visual studio.
