I just ordered an Asus F6V-V1 from Amazon

    Asus Spec Sheet
    Amazon Item

I am just wondering what the Processors I could put in it to upgrade it. It has a T9400 already. I guess it wouldn't be a problem to throw in a T9600.

This guy on ebay has the following:
    T9600 - $300
    T9800 - $400
Looks kinda like a fraud to me since T9800 isn't released yet.

I am guessing the X9100 would also work because the laptop is a PM45 chipset. Probably would have overheating issues though.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Brian

that T9800 is an ES model (Engineering Sample), which are released earlier for testing purposes to manufacturers. at any rate, both will work.

You'll hardly notice a boost in overall performance. Only CPU-intensive apps will benefit slightly from the extra frequency. The T9400 is a very powerful CPU itself.

Both are ESs. And you'll end up voiding your warranty, for a modest increase in performance.

The chipset supports it, but cannot say about the BIOS. Checkout the BIOS Release notes and Updates history, and also see if anyone else with a F6V is running a X9100.

I would never drop an extreme CPU in a 13"er. The cooling system will not be able to handle that CPU at full load. Extreme CPUs are mainly for 17"+ notebooks with an outstanding, dedicated cooling system.

    Yeah, a X9100 in a F6V will be like, a V12 in a Fiesta.

HDD and RAM upgrades won't void warranties, unless you reinstall the original/stock modules when sending the notebook in for service.

Read the sticky (Mehh!) at the top of the ASUS forum. It has info on how one would end up voiding their notebook warranties.

CPUs on new notebooks are usually more than enough for most users. So unless you are in that specific category of users that would benefit from the marginal improvement in speed, or you do this for (a whole lot of) fun :) I would advise against it.
