The G1s I have is preloaded with vista ultimate (not home premium) 32 bit. I tried upgrading to 4 GB Ram using corsar value select ram. The system showed 3.x GB which was expected then after a while the system froze and the screen went black. Even the forced shutdown botton at the buttom of the Laptop could not bring it back. Only putting back the original ram worked. Now, if somebody has been able to upgrade the system to 4GB, which brand and model of RAM did you use? Did you have to upgrade to a 64 bit version of vista?

The G1S should be able to use 4 GB. Its likely that the RAM is faulty, or simply does not work with the notebook. If it is exchangeable, then you may want to consider a swap for some new RAM, perhaps from a different manufacturer.

There are other threads here describing the Asus models' (including the G1) problem with 4GB of memory, both in 32 and 64 bit OS, if you search for them. Others have demonstrated that the RAM is not faulty when the full 4GB is not recognized, it's a BIOS/OS problem.

For example, see threads here, here, here, and here.

Thanks for the information, ClearSkies. I'm suprised the notebook isn't able to run with 4 GB.

I understand that this seems to be a problem for the G1S. I suggest those using Vista 32 bit should stick to 2GB or 3GB (max for 32 bit OS).

Yes in order to allow for 4GB of ram, you will required to have Vista 64 bit OS.
But, the G1S doesn't seem to take it properly.

I am not suggesting the ram is problematic, but the ram/bios/motherboard combo are not compatibile. I would like to know if any body has any brand of ram working with no issues

Having the same problem. The OCZ value 4GB kit (5-5-5-15) doesn't behave well either. On a reboot, the machine won't boot for a while. It's like the memory has to discharge or something.

Interesting thing to note: If you remove the modules and pop them back in again, the machine boots again. Strange that this notebook has such a problem with 4GB of memory.

As someone else said, the same 4GB works just great in my M1330.

OCZ has been known to cause problems in the C90, probably in the G1S as well. I had 2X2 (4GB) of G. Skill ram and it worked flawlessly!

    Worked flawlessly in the G1S?
