Since the chipset is Mobile Intel® PM45 Express Chipset, does that mean it can supports a q9200? cause I checked the site and it says it does....
-
Nope, well not the BB version anyway.
-
-
anybody else?
-
The G60JX from BB does support i7 Quads. -
Weird, I wonder why since the chipset supports quads...
-
Yeah we all thought the same and Forge tried a QX9300 in one with no results, best you can do is a T9900 or X9100, which is still very good.
-
hmmm makes no sense! haha but thanks anyways guys. Ill try to pick up a T9900 and OC it to like 3.5Ghz..
or should I just keep my P7450 at 2.6Ghz? -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Well, I attempted with a G51vx. There is a very slim chance it might work as per Dzuchowski's post. For all I know the motherboard revision on he G60vx might allow it.
-
I'm almost 100% sure they use the same mobo, the G60VX uses the same exact parts as the G51VX except for a slightly bigger screen
-
just use the latest bios is all
-
Can you show us a screen shot?
-
not even the bios makes a difference. About the revision though, we were all surprised that there would be a different revision between the bb and non-bb version of the g51 so as far as the g60 goes I think its anybody's guess
-
Even though the chipset supports quad, they could have left that feature out without stating it in the specifications for the laptops. There are lots of reasons why Intel would do this and mainly it's due to $.
These chipsets were probably poorly binned and only had the ability to work with dual-cores. What I mean to those who are confused, they reused them for a lower-end product instead of wasting the resources because of a defect. An example would be the lower/middle end GPU cards. Those are a result from non-fully-functional, high-end, units and discarding the wafer would be a complete $ loss. -
I'm not sure about the G60, but I remember back when the G51 first came out, Forge tried to throw a quad into his BB G51 and it just didn't work because the motherboard was a different revision (iirc).

Only the A1 variant of the G51vx worked with a quad. Element tried a QS QX9300 in his X1A, and it was no joy either.
dzuchowski, I'm curious myself. Would you mind opening your laptop and taking a photo of your motherboard revision? Should be on the RAM slots.
