I would like to upgrade my hard drive to a 500gb 7200 drive.

What is the easiest software to use to "clone" the new drive? Any suggestions on how to most easily perform this operation would be greatly appreciated. I am a bit of a noob.

If you've never done this, then a commercial product is going to be your best bet.

Personally, I've used Acronis' TrueImage and never had an issue with it. You can usually get it for less than $30 over at Newegg, or you can find it at eBay as well (be sure to get the newer Vista-compatible version if you take the latter route). And you'll also need an external 2.5" SATA enclosure for this process too :).

You are bound to get more opinions below, but my recommendation stands.
