The A8JP comes with 1GB RAM standard (2DIMM), but I'd like 2GB of RAM. So basically I'd need to get 2 sticks of 1GB RAM to replace the 2 512MBs that are inside in order to get 2GB of RAM right?

For someone who has never taken apart/put together a computer before is this hard to do? I'd like to install it myself since I wouldn't trust letting someone else handle my machine. I just want to know if this is something the average person can do with some simple instructions. Thanks in advance.

I don't think you should have too much of a problem!

ID the memory you have, and the type you need.

And consult your manual for the taking apart process.

I need to do this for my FE -- but it has such tiny tiny screws that I don't think I have the proper equipment.

I put memory in my M45 and that was the first time I've ever taken apart a notebook. I was done in 20 mins (I was slow...)...

the screws in the a8js are quite large and probably dont need a special screwdriver. Its just behind the large panel on the bottom

Yup that's correct, you will want to use 2x1GB DDR2 (SO-DIMM 200pins) @667mhz. You can easily find these from any retailer, or newegg. I believe someone a few days ago found 2GB of G-skill ram for around 180$ USD.

Keep your old ram just incase, but what do you plan to do with the old ram?

I would keep the old ram for a possible barebones z84jp project maybe. But I would sell it if someone wants it. Its value is only going down...
