Alright so about 1 month ago i bought the Asus G50VT-X5 and it handles games beautifully with it's 9800, and i don't mind the resolution being lower than usual but i've been wondering, what can i upgrade on the Asus? From what i've read i can upgrade the CPU.
What about the hard drive? can i install dual drives?
And the graphic card, i was wondering if it's possible to upgrade it?
My last question involves the cooling system, could it be possible to install a better cooling system?
Thanks for all the help.

You can upgrade the CPU and you can install another HDD. As for the graphic card, it CANNOT be upgraded. With the cooling system, I suppose you could somehow mod it (add more metal to the heatsink, change the fan, etc.) but imho this would be difficult to do and may not yield much dividends.
Just a quick caution that any changes involving the removal of the HSF assembly will void the warranty because there is a warranty sticker there. So swapping CPUs or even changing the thermal paste will void your warranty, but it looks like you're game enough to not worry about that.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I'm most likely gonna go ahead and install anew HD and a better CPU even if it voids the warranty. The first thing i wanted to do though was to install a better cooling system. What about the memory? would the system accept dual 4GB DDR3 at 1333MHz

It uses DDR2 therefor physically impossible to use DDR3 at all.
If you add all the mods u want in the first post and the outright cost if they were all possible this pretty much concludes you bought the wrong laptop lol. -
No, the G50 can not use DDR3 memory. The pins on the DDR2 do not match with the ones on the DDR3.

I'm sorry but that was actually a typo, i meant to say DDR2. I'm actually experimenting with the laptop right now, I'm wanting to find out what i can upgrade to max and what the price would be, if it's in my budget then I'm going ahead with the changes. I'm kinda bummed though that the GPU can't be changed since there are laptops that the GPU can be changed through difficult modding but the 9800 still delivers great graphics though. Thanks for the help by the way.

DDR2 in Laptops officially ends at 800 Mhz there is no 1066 or 1333 only in DDR3. I have seen 1066 DDR2 for desktops as well as some unofficial stuff higher for desktops.
The chipset supports 1066mhz fsb processors and up to 8GB of DDR 2 800Mhz (chipset supports ddr3 the laptop is not setup for it). -
If you want to upgrade everything with the best specs, then, 8gb (2x4gb) 800mhz DDR2, 500GB 7200rpm HDD or a SSD HDD, and a X9100 ot T9900 CPU would put you on top.
EDIT: why is it every time i post, clutch always beats me to the punch? grrr..... -
Lol, Clutch is trying to take over your honoured position at NBR.

Besides my 12.58 spams per day pwn his 8.81. -
HDD seems like your best upgrade. G50's still have value, so if you wanted to upgrade you CPU, you may as well sell your rig and buy a shiny new one.

Alright thanks all.

Theres two drive bays so you can always use a little storage, right now I have the 250 from my last laptop in that bay. -
Thanks all
