So yesterday I was reading the V2je manual because i was looking to intergrate the fingerprint reader and got no where and i stumbled on hard drive upgrade. I figured that i would need a larger hard drive sooner or later, but in bold it states. "any hard drive upgrade or modification will void your warranty".. is this even possible o_O? what are your thoughts ?

i thought upgrading the hard drive was okay

it depends on the brand. for most manufacturers it does not void the warrenty so this is very unusual

Well, if it says in bold that it would void your warranty, then it'll void your warranty. Better not take any chances and just wait it out.

On the contrary, it has been well established here for quite some time (including multiple users sending in their notebooks to Asus for support) that HDD replacement does *not* void any warranty provided by Asus. Same applies for RAM upgrades, but CPU upgrades are not permitted under warranty coverage. Now, if you manage to static-fry your motherboard while you do any of this then that might be a problem :).

Some folks keep the old HDD around to replace in case they ever need to send the unit in, but that's a personal decision. If you put the old HDD back in, there's no way for them to know anyway.

Might be worth contacting Asus about as this does seem unusual. Unless you have to go through a circus of events to replace the HD like removing a bunch of stuff to get to the HD.

You can use any of the HDDs on the market, as long as you put an SATA model in. 120 was the max available mainstream HDD size when the manual was initially written and printed - it hasn't been updated since, obviously.
