Hello everyone,
I am hoping that someone out there who is genius and friendly enough to answer my very noobish question.. I am not a computer guru of any sort.
I have a asus g50v t5750 (2.0ghz) and am wondering if it is (very) possible to upgrade the processor to something more substantial? 2.0 is too weak for what I do.
I work as a 3d artist and do heavy renderings that require more horsepower from my cpu.
I am not concerned with warranty issues..
I would love to get one of asus's flagship gaming laptops.. but I cant afford anything for long while.
Thank you!

You can upgrade the G50V's CPU to a T9900 (3.06GHz)

Thank you for your input!
Would any of you guys be kind enough to point me to a website or company that I can browse to see where I can start to shop for this pretty chip?
Do I have to seriously consider worring about overheating or system failure issues? My knowledge of cpu's are very.. very.. stupid.
Thanks in advance! -
Ebay is probably your best bet. Avoid ES chips and you'll be fine.
There shouldn't be much of a heat difference between the T9900 and your current T5750 as they both have the same 35W TDP (thermal design power) rating.

Hey everyone,
I did some noobish research and am a little concerned.. my lack of computer knowledge leads me to ask..
***Would limitations of the bus speeds of my old processor invalidate any upgrades of the newer processor components?
***I assume that the mobo dictates what the FSB output is?
***Does this mean that the processing power will be bottlenecked??
the T9900 has a (fsb of 1066mhz) and the t5750 has a (fsb of 667mhz).
T5750
Clock Speed 2 GHz
Front Side Bus 667 MHz
L1 Cache 128 KB
L2 Cache 2 MB
Process Technology 65 nm
T9900
Clock Speed 3.06 GHz
Front Side Bus 1066 MHz
L1 Cache 128 KB
L2 Cache 6 MB
Process Technology 45 nm -

The PM45 chipset on the G50V supports 1066MHz FSB. You're fine in that department. When you upgrade to a T9900 CPU, your FSB will run at 1066MHz.

Thank you for your awesome help!
I was getting paranoid about buying something expensive that might not have compatibility with the mobo.
Thank you again!! freaken awesome.
Would the upgrade show a marked added performance you think?
I dont do gaming.. well until starcraft 2 comes out. Mostly processing power that deal with rendering 3d; not real time 3d gaming which i think has more to do with a good graphics card.
anyway, thank you for your time. -
No problem
You should see a small performance boost in day-to-day tasks, and more so in CPU intensive tasks such as HD encoding, photoshop, RTS games etc. If you're looking to upgrade your laptop so that its faster when opening programs and faster during boot, I'd suggest looking into an SSD upgrade instead of a CPU. SSD upgrades are generally more noticeable in terms of speed, but at the end, it'll still depend on what you're planning to do on your system.
