Hi all. I was wondering if anyone can share their experience in upgrading the CPU from a Yohan to a Meron on their W2jb. I've always built my own desktops, but I'm kind of leary about tinkering too much on a notebook...although given the size of the W2jb, I would've called it a noteboat. But I still like it lots. I've added a Gig of memory and upgraded the HD to a Hitachi 100GB 7200rpm, no brainers. However, how involved is the CPU upgrade...and for that matter, the video chip? Thanks.

I think in the cost/benefit analysis it comes up short.

Youda, most people would not upgrade from Yonah to Merom so soon, they would wait untill their warranty is complete, and when Merom prices drop and then make the upgrade.

I agree with Danny and ZaZ. It is too soon to worry about upgrading. Until Vista x64 matures with at least SP1, and all the 64 bit drivers have been written, and all the software that you want to use is also 64 bit...Merom won't show you enough performance gain to make it worthwhile.

As for its difficulty...it is easy. Remove your heatsink, turn the screw lock about a 1/4 turn to the right and the CPU will release, swap them, reapply thermal paste and put it back together. Tinker toy easy.

Until you yourself have a need to purchase 64bit software, I wouldn't even consider it. When that time comes, then you'll need a 64bit OS and obviously cpu, but until that time it doesn't make sense. I bet it'll be a few years before most people really have a need, so you may be looking at a new system by that time anyway.
