Hi, i recently bought a 8600m 256mb ddr3 to replace my ddr2 on my c90s. Since its on its way here, i thought it would be good to prepare for the new card. What kind of tools would i need and Do I have to do anything on the computer before replacing it? For instance do i uninstall my old drivers, need to buy any extra materials/tools, that 120W adapter ppl were talking about, etc. I have no idea what I'm doing so i was wondering if i could get help from other people who replaced their GPU.

Oh and if the swap goes okay than I can sell my old ddr2 for a cheap price. Its used but in perfect working condition.

Step 1) go to 1toppc and download the assembly guide on the C90s and print it out for a fallback. You can probably google it and find it but if memory serves correct 1toppc has it available for download on the page for ordering the C90s

Step 2) get a small screwdriver capable of gripping the small screws on the case. This might take a bit of time to find if you don't have a large selection on hand but usually if you have a set of micros one of the larger philipps heads will work (it's what I use)

Step 3) When card arrives, have place to put screws ready and make sure its bright colored (I used my orange box case)

Step 4) Check the ram and look for the sticker that has a motherboard revision number on it. IF it ends with f06 or a smaller number, you don't need the 120w adapter

Step 5) The gpu assembly has a springloaded screw so be gentle when removing. Again its been a bit since I took mine apart for kicks but it should pop out at an angle so remove it then insert the new card taking care not to touch things unless you need to and are properly grounded (I didn't take precautions but its a good idea to)

Step 6) Reassemble and enjoy :)

No, you won't need to replace old drivers.
Some tools you may need are a small philips-head screw driver and thermal paste (Arctic silver 5 is highly recommended...you can get it on newegg).
The 120W power supply is also a must to prevent crashing.

If this is your first time replacing a computer component (other than ram), I'd suggest you take your c90s back to the place where you purchased it and ask them to swap the gpu for you.

As for selling your old ddr2 card, I don't think that's gonna happen. The card will only work on a c90s, and all resellers sell their c90s with the GPUs. Unless you find a person whom purchased the gddr3 card and wants to downgrade to the ddr2, i think you're outta luck.

EDIT: opps, forgot about the mobo version.
