sup guys... first time on notebookreview here... i own an ASUS m6bne lappy with a 1.8 dothan and 9700pro 64mb... i was wondering 2 things...

    1) is it possible to upgrade from the 9700 to the x800.. now i kno that the 9700 is an AGP card.. and the x800 is a pcie... so now... any way of upgrading? cuz i kno the 9700 isnt integrated... its external with external 64mb of memory... not built-in with the system...

    and

    2) anyway of upgrading the lcd? wen i bought this.. i was not aware of the possible lcds out there (ex. the XBRITE from sony)... this lcd is much much more easy on my eyes and much better for my multimedia and gaming... i kno its a longshot.. but anyway of upgrading / replacing one that would fit?

btw my lcd is a 15.1" widescreen...

    thx guys ^_^ hf gl

Sorry... I doubt there's any way to upgrade the M6Ne the way you want to.
Even though the Radeon 9700 has dedicated memory, it is soldered onto the motherboard.
Secondly, unless you find a perfect fit LCD to match the hinges and stuff (which doesn't exist), you cannot upgrade the LCD.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

the renewed m6 is the z70v. It comes with an x600 /w 128mb (which is the same and sometimes faster than the 9700 as far as I know) and comes with a WSXGA+ screen (which is an upgrade from the north american m6 lcd's with WXGA). I would assume it would also have a faster DVD-RW drive (at least an 8x) much like the w3v's, but not sure.

It's probably cheaper for you to sell your laptop and get one of these babies. They'll have faster RAM (Sonoma chipset), better wireless, and faster FSB (533MHz vs. 400MHz).

There shouldn't be any major issues with upgrading the dvd drive, I was going to do the same but changed my mind at the last minute because I couldnt remove the plastic trimming on the outside of the drive, thus any new drive would look a bit silly, and wouldnt match the rest of the machine. Also it was much cheaper to buy a desktop burner and external case, so I went that route instead. Glad I did as well, the externals are much more reliable and I have far fewer coasters now.

ps the other upgrades are no goes. Although the 9700 is dedicated it is still part of the m/b, the only possiblity would be to go to a 9800, by poping out the chip and replacing it with the 9800 chip....they both are ment to have ati flex-fit tech, the only problem is finding someone to sell you a compatable 9800 chip.
And is it really worth all the money and hassel?
