Guys, I have been desperately trying to get some information regarding.the ASUS x200LA model, which appears in several sites as unavailable.

Amazon.com: ASUS X200LA-DH31T 11.6-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (Black): Computers & Accessories

I am an owner of a refurbished x202e, which works really well, except the battery life is underwhelming. The x200LA, going for a similar pricepoint, would offer a Haswell processor, and a better battery, so one could expect substantial improvements there. I am still within warranty, but there's just no information about the x200LA.

Anyone have any information about this, or any other budget 10.1-11.6'' tablets that meet the same profile for performance? Thanks!

How long have you had your x202e? Keep in mind Warranty and return period are two different things. Most places offer a 15-30 day return period after you get the computer. During that period you can return it for a refund/exchange. After that time period you cant return it anymore but if you have issues that are covered under the warranty you can send it in to get it fixed, but typically not for a new computer.

I am within my 30 day return grace period.

Haswell will get you better battery time as you have mentioned. The though part is when the X200LA you'd like will be available. Since you are not happy with your computer already you should return it, but with the chance of not having a computer for a while until the X200LA becomes available again. Thats just something you'll have to decide on.

That's part of my issue: when will the damn thing be available? Anyone have any idea?

It's just become available. PCSuperStore and Tiger Direct have it.

Thie is the one area where haswell does improve a lot. I would swap it.

It's jarring; there are different specs listed in each site (8GB RAM vs. 4GB; 3-cell battery vs. 4-cell...)

It also just became available in Amazon for $533.

I just got one from TigerDirect... but haven't returned my x202e yet. Want to try it out first and see if it is worth the additional $200 bucks I paid for it.

Come to think of it... 200 dollars for just improved battery life sounds pretty silly...

Glad you were able to get one while still in your return period of the X202E.
If you need the battery life its not too silly, considering you'll probably keep this model for years.

So, I sold my x202e for $320 bucks, and am expecting my x200LA in a few days. I hope, really hope, the model lives up to my expectations, of at least earning a few hours of battery life.

Incidentally, I just ran a CPU compare test online, and came out with this.

    Intel Core i3 4010U vs 3217U

I'm not entirely savvy on how to read these; but it would look like the haswell isn't really consuming all that less power. In what sense is it then a 'low voltage' processor, and how is it supposed to entail a dramatic improvement in battery life?

    Power Consumption

    haswell i3 4010u, vs i3 3217u
    TDP 15W 17W
    Annual home energy cost 3.61 $/year 4.1 $/year
    Performance per watt 22.94 pt/W 20.77 pt/W
    Typical power consumption 12.19W 13.81W

Well guys, I got the x200LA, and it came with a wonky touchpad, and battery life seems marginally improved at best. I am getting 3-4 hours with light tasking. A shame; so much for an updated model. I might return it and get the t100.
