This is probably not a place to discuss about my graphics woes but I need very specific help. And fast.

I bought a G1S-A1 a month back. However I had not run 3DMark 06 till yesterday since I didn't have network at home. So I ran it yesterday and to my horror it threw back 1947 points, whereas others with the same machine have reported 3000+ points without any OCing.

The drivers are stock and the hard disk is a 5400 rpm one. The OS is Windows Vista Home Premium. The only tweaking I've done is removed the bloatware from the windows startup.

Do you guys think there is a problem with the hardware itself? Has anyone had this issue with 3DMark before?

Please help. I have only about 15 more days in the US after which I return to India. Can't do much about it then. Any help will be appreciated.

I'm quite sure it's a G1S-A1. The graphics card is an 8600M GT with 256 MB GDDR3 video ram.

hmm than it shouldnt be so low...try updating ur driver from http://laptopvideo3go.com.

    steps:
    Download DriverCleanerPro
Go to http://laptopvideo3go.com and get the newest drivers and the modded INF.
Uninstall ur current drivers and reboot
After reboot open DriverCleanerPro and select nVidia and press clean/start
    After its done reboot again
After reboot start the driver installer and test ur 3DMark06 again.

I dont know what to say... I got my G1S a couple of days ago and with stock drivers, it scored 3941 with 3dmark06.

Anyways, make sure you have your laptop running at "high performance" mode. Worst case scenario will be reinstalling vista via the recovery DVD.

I know. And I'm afraid I might have to send it in for replacement.

Anyway I will run the benchmark tests with all the above points in mind.

    Fingers crossed.

keep in mind anything around 3400+ is fine. Since these benchmarks can't really be used to judge the entire notebook by.

    @theros123

i completely agree with you on that. i am just worried about getting a defective piece since the score is far lower than most other low scores i've come across.

another small disaster. i got 2015 points after switching to 167.45 drivers from laptopvideo2go

i should mention though that i couldn't manage to run driver cleaner pro since it just wouldn't download past 99%

what do you guys say? should i call up tech support? should i send in the laptop for replacement/repairs?

But doesn't the G1S-A1 have slow down issues with the AC adapter plugged in?

I've experienced performance loss whenever I've plugged in the adapter as compared to drawing power from the battery.

What resolution are you running 3dmark06 at?

Do you have any games? What kinds of framerates are you getting, and during which game?

    3dmark is odd.

I've been able to run COD 4, Jericho, Unreal Tournament 3 with most of the settings maxed out without any slowdown issues, but when I tried to run 3dmark06, I couldn't barely make it past the second framerate test it was so slow.

No, that's only when the battery falls below 90%. Doesn't matter if its charging or not. As long as the battery is above 90% and its plugged in, then you'll get a higher score. Also upgrade to the newest GPU drivers (169.29 or something)

if you want a accurate score just remove the battery and run 3DMark06 on AC mode.

    Hi guys,

A very big thank you to all. Sorry for the late reply. Just got back and got rid of Vista. I now have Win XP Pro SP2 and Ubuntu Gutsy running flawlessly. I ran 3D Mark 06 and it gave me 3500+ points which was a welcome change :D Also loaded up Half Life 2. It's giving me 70+ fps thru out with 1024x768, 2x AA and all the other settings set to high. I have no clue if this is good or bad, but it works for me and that's what matters.
I will be playing UT2004 tonight. Will let you guys know how things unfold.
Many thanks again to everyone on this forum for the timely and relevant help.

Are you sure you were running on max performance power plan?
