A couple questions about using the DVI out on the A8Jm...

Will it support a 1920x1200 LCD monitor?

How is the laptop setup so you can close the lid and still use an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse? Does it figure out what you're trying to do and automatically adapt, or do you have to change the power settings everytime so it doesnt go to standby when the lid is closed?

It does support 1920x1200, I tried that on a monitor at work, but 1920x1200 monitors tend to have kind of crappy refresh.

You can close the lid and use the externals if you're so inclined (that's what I do at home), but you do have to set it not to go into standby when the lid closes. But remember that you can also set the power button to put it in standby instead of closing the lid; a small change of habit for a lot of convenience.

it should support that rez. refresh is irrelevant to lcd monitors only matters with CRTS. all your do it hit the FN and external monitor bottun on the top of your keyboard and close the lid. you can use a USB mouse and keyboard.

He probably meant response time instead of refresh rate.

Actually, he probably meant refresh rate. CRTs tend to decrease their refresh rates at higher resolutions. Part of it is that Windows decreases the refresh rate when you set a higher resolution though. I figured that out at school when people who changed the resolution left all the monitors at 60Hz. How do people NOT notice that flickering, it's painful...

When I reformatted my A8Jm and installed all the drivers/utilities, the one that controlled what the buttons do (possibly HControl) had closing the screen set to turning it off-not standby. So depending on what you have you might not even have to change that.

Ha, 30" is still that much bigger! Of course once you get that big you encounter the problem of text on the ends being reeeeaalllllyyy far away, if still a very good size.

It makes me sad that my A8Jm would fit in a 30" 4 times with space left over.

It's a 1920x1200 LCD. There is no flicker.

I frequently take my A8Jm to my buddy's house. We hook it up to his 42" 1080p HDTV monitor and play Mario Kart 64 @ 1920x1200 :p

Therefore I specifically indicated that I was talking about CRTs. But you're right, no flicker with an LCD-which is precisely why I bought one in the first place :)
