Okay after 2 months of use.. I've installed WAYYYY too much garbage and I'm getting random windows problems so I want to do a nice clean reformat but I don't want all the junk that came with the laptop...

I the Windows XP cd that came with the laptop will install all the junk but is there a way to stop it from doing that? I don't really have a Windows XP cd other than this one... could I use a dl'ed copy and use the legit CD that came with my laptop?

I find funny that Asus hasn't changed what they include with their systems outside of a change from pc cillin to norton..... in 5 years... And no one has ever said their system is "full of garbage" until I'd say a few comments popped up on the last month. So what garbage are you trying to get rid of?

So yes or no on the recovery CD? I'm in the same boat, except that I just got the system today.

the garbage as in norton, nero, fax drivers, i dont remember all of them but i know i spent about 2 or 3 hours when i first got my computer disabling and uninstalling things that I knew i would never use and services that would slow down my computer.. (startup mostly) although I do agree that ASUS does have less garbage than many other laptop manufacturers

I'd just rather do a clean install and only install the programs and drivers I want..

Which wireless program is the only one needed so 5 arent running? Do you just need the WLAN Driver and Application?

Well, there is an Intel program, a Toshiba Wireless program(usually packaged with BT), the Windows client(which you can disable), and a WLan program from ASUS. Pretty much you either want only the Intel client or the default Windows one.

yes i guess you could do something......as when you recover with the CD it askes you to put the recovery CD in (Windows stuff) and then you put the driver CD in which runs a script to install all the drivers.

I used my own winXP Pro and then installed the programs i needed from the bundled CD's and installed the drivers I wanted.

    insane

well its been posted on forum... so i just installed with the recovery cd.. and when they ask for the driver cd, take out your recovery cd.. then force restart (ctrl + alt + del).. this will load straight into windows installation without the driver/utility cd. so basically you get a fresh windows without anything..
