Sorry, this has probrably been asked a million times, but I can't seem to find the answer quickly, and some have said "no its not coming to America", and others are saying "yes, but just later".
So anyway, is the Asus V1J going to come to North America, specifically Canada, and when will it be available if it is going to come.
Once again, sorry for having to answer this question again, for those that have been asked a bajillion times.
100th post, by the way.![]()

congratulations! now you're a notebook consultant! (i preferred the title notebook geek personally haha)
i've heard more NOT coming to north america people than i have YES its coming people -
Thanks for the compliment and opinion, stevenator!
I can't seem to find the Asus V1J in the Asus USA website, but its there in the Global one. So does that further prove that the V1J isn't coming to America, let alone Canada?
I remember reading something along the lines from PROPortable about a V1J with Core 2 Duo that would be released in America. Is this just a rumour, or confirmed or what? -
i'm pretty sure proportable wouldn't spread a rumor like that.
and just because it's on global and not on the american one doesn't prove anything. i've heard this is available in certain parts of europe... check the european site to see if it is on there. -
Hmmm. Its available on the UK website. I haven't checked France or Germany, but if its available in the UK, it should be available in Europe.
I wonder why they wouldn't ship it into North America. Isn't it a larger market than Europe? -
Yea I'm also in Vancouver and I'm eagerly waiting for this one.

tick tock tick tock...waiting for PROPortable, MilestonePC.com or other knowledged forum users to answer....NOTE: not saying stevenator isn't a knowledged forum user, just that PROPortable and MilestonePC obviously have connections to Asus.

The YEAs and NAYs can really go to another forum.... counting the number of those who say either and tallying them up isn't going to get you the truth. Here's the truth.
1. The V1jp will be coming to the US - actually North America as Canada will get them as well.
2. Their mobile product manager quit last month to go work as the international notebook product manager for Gateway..... I haven't told anyone else this for various other reasons, but it's important to the case of all Merom based notebooks, including the exclusion of a high end 15.4" for the last year and half...... On a side note, he was a very good friend and we were his first account when he started as a minon at Asus in the spring of of 01..... I don't really want to get into it any more than that, but there's a reason he quit and any of those people familiar with who I'm talking about and other comments I've made about him in the past - you'll know what it means for the direction of Asus... enough said.
3. The V1jp is NOT ordered yet, so it's not 100% guarenteed. Calling the new PM wet behind the ears would be an understatement... he's still in the delivery room (sorry for the visual).
4. We've been without a high end 15.4" since the W1n which hasn't been sold here in a year and half - at the least..... The V1 is the inherient update that the US both wanted and needed... they want to compete in the business market and to do that you need a sorta semi-rugged setup (spill proof keyboard would do) ... and a full - dedicated docking station... both of which the V1 has. The "jp" model is the merom version which is what we'd get, which means November at the earliest. However, before the last PM left he told me the V1 wasn't ordered at yet at that point because the docking station hadn't made production yet and there was one other important feature that hadn't be offered on the ordering sheet yet and needed to be tested before the US would place their order.
So, after taking the time to read through my list...... you've made it here.... good for you... Anyway..... Here's the deal and it's about the last I want to say about it because the V1 is an awesome system and every question about it makes me ticked we don't have it yet because 15.4" is still so darn popular and even having the W1 over the last year would have help sales a ton........ so it hurts all of us.... But I can tell you this right now... It WILL come, but WHEN is another story. Asus isn't going to wait for santa rosa to bring this over here. If they were going to - they would have brought the W1j over here in August because they're deserate for that size range. However, we all know the W1 effects the W2 sales (it does over the rest of the world and their design and features and price would be too close)... so everything leads to the V1.... it's just a matter of time.... The US office is waiting for something to be perfected.... trust me, you may not be able to wait, but if you want a V1 - you're going to want what ever it is they think is worth waiting for.
Does that put any of you to ease? -
I'm thinking that they will it release it just before christmas to maybe boost sales???

Thanks PROPortable. You've answered everything now!

Don't expect a near christmas release..... over the last 3-4 year holidays that I recall, Asus proves themselves not to care about things like that..... Chinese new year is important to them.. they don't release anything prior and then they close down for a week and half or so and don't ship anything till basically February..... but basically, either they don't care about that shopping season, or they don't know about it..... Same thing with back to school and things like that. Two parts of the year that most people buy notebooks and usually their stock is nearly gone and new models seem to come just a month too late. Considering the santa rosa platform is set for a Q1 release - figure that'll really be March at the earliest... Asus typically doesn't like to release a new Intel notebook after mid November...... I've seen them release refreshes up till mid December, but for a whole new model they realize they're going to need to raise awareness of the new model first as no real reviews will be out for a month or so after it's release.

I'm getting more worried about the release of the V1j/p as the days go by...
-
It will be released two weeks later than expected in Europe (end of October).

Listen, let me try to help you make sense of this. Basically, Asus' facilities have the potential to put out I think it's about 3,000 systems a day. The problem is that different models have different schedules and Asus' brand takes a backseat to demand from other companies Asus builds for. Likewise, now Asus has something like 20-30 different models worldwide and that limits the turnaround of certain models as it's longer between production runs. They could leave Taiwan tomorrow and none of us have any say in it... the US office doesn't know what's going on outside of a rough ETA for prodution, but they don't know when they're coming till they actually leave Taiwan. From there, it's about three weeks till we've got them to sell to customers..... Everything is in the V1jp's corner.... everything....
