hhm, see by this statement above, makes me believe, fine the V1J will be released in August or september, but moreover, that Merom will be delayed. Delayed possibly a by a few months. <-that is what i feel from this message.
I dunno, i could be wrong tho.
If ASUS release the V1J in sept. and merom comes out in August..there's almost no point in buying the V1J..![]()

we'll see, another couple of months to go.

So Mystic, you basically think they'll introduce the Merom technology in the US, and thus release the V1J as soon as Merom is available?
If so, do you think they'd upgrade the than existing V1J in Europe with Merom as well? -
I don't see why they couldn't put meroms in them. They use the same platform and use the same amount of power. Its not like they would have to redesign anything to put merom in it. I just recently became interested in asus's notebooks so I don't know how they usually introduce new products

nono quite the opposite!
Lets assume August/September the V1J will be released in NA.
NA will also see the release of Merom in August.
So, if this is what happens, my guess is that the V1J will definately have Yonah, <- most likely the last ASUS Yonah laptop in production.
So since ASUS will be releasing the V1J so late in the year, it would seem that ASUS is telling us 2 things, 1) Merom is delayed, 2) ASUS will not have any Merom notebooks out right away. (more like 3 months later).
Or the thing we all want to happen is that ASUS puts merom into the V1J and it becomes an instant hit, in which alot of people will buy! (highly doubt this would happen)
And no Europe will not get a Merom version of the V1J in July.
My guess is tho, the V1J will definately be refreshed with Merom, and price would increase, this will prolly occur 3-6 months later after the release of Yonah V1J.
Many would rather just buy a Yonah laptop, W3J, A8jm, S96j and then upgrade to Merom if they want to.
Thanks,

That clarifies a lot
!
Well, I think I am just going to purchase it in July, otherwise I'll never buy a notebook. -
They have gotten meroms close to 4ghz but are limited by the motherboards
-

Im sure the asus dealers have heard more information about this amazing laptop, is there anything you can tell us yet or does asus have you under an NDC?. If so when does the NDC expire for the v1j if you are allowed to say that.
Thanks for all your help,

No official announcement has been made as yet. Best guestimates have it scheduled for a summer launch for Europe, with North America seeing it in August or September.
-
Are we even going to get it? NA
-
If you mean North America, I don't see why not... Asus hasn't been shy about releasing their other high end Ensemble models into the NA market. If you mean Antarctica, probably not. Lenovo will probably be the first to broach that lucrative market...
Please remember to give some indication where you are... this is an international forum, after all. -
sorry, i meant North america. Do you have any idea how much it will cost. V series gets expensive though eh? Around 2000?
-
Sorry, couldn't give you an estimate on price that's more than the vaguest of hand waving... the V series are one of Asus' premier lineups though. Based on the current prices on the V6J, $1800-2000 USD is probably a good estimate.
-
Perhaps you'd be interested in the W1J instead? Same 15.4" form factor, but with carbon fibre and an even more insane price...
-
ASUS has a serious problem when it comes to press releases. Obviously they find it very hard to keep it's target groups informed on latest developments and updates.
What's so hard on writing an update every two weeks about one or more models? Same applies to the W1J, on the ASUS website there still isn't any sign of the W1J (except of the disorderly subsite) while it's being promoted in internet stores already. -
**** that w1j looks awsome, but will probablly super expensive. The w3j is already a bit too much for me.
-
I was suprised that the V1j did not even have a showing in computex 2006 in Taipei. in fact Asus did not show any new notebook modles at all.
-

^ yup same, and i saw that too, no new ASUS models in computex.
Well the V1J is still unknown if it will come to NA, the price range should be competitive with the MBP and Acer 8204. Which is about 2000+ and under 2500.
Since you can see the V6J is about $2000, make it widescreen and add a better GPU should bring that cost up to like that range above mentioned.
The best budget notebook is the S96j and Z96, and if you want a cheap 14" try the a8jm.
Hope this helps,
Thanks,
