My V1J should be arriving later today and I want to upgrade it to Ultimate. I am guessing that the V1J only comes with an OEM restore disk and not a "full" Vista installation. If this is the case what do I need to buy? Is the retail Upgrade package sufficient or does this only contain a license key and I need a standard Vista installation disk in addition

well if the version of vista you got with your notebook is anything like the retail version then all you should need is a new cd key as all versions are stored in the same Vista Image.. Although I've heard that it invalidates your old key when you upgrade.

I await to hear from fellas that have tried.

as for me, I got my business ed through Uni, Microsoft academic alliance programme.

Called the Asus helpdesk. They said that I can't upgrade - I have to buy a new OS. If this proves to be correct, I'll say pfft to the upgrade.

You can probably use Vista's built-in express upgrade service to download Ultimate for a fee straight from Microsoft. It will count as an "upgrade" of your installation, and your key will become registered as an Ultimate key.

I believe it's $150 to go from Business to Ultimate.
