Being one of us who had previously decided on the W3J (or A8Jm depending on price difference) I was a bit taken back by the post in the Dell sub-forum saying that the Merom will be pushed up to the June/July timeframe. (Link for reference: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=50416)
Assuming that this turns out to be true my question is, will the V1J have the Merom? It just seems that if the V1J is slated for an August release there is more than enough time to change especially if they are pin-for-pin compatible.
Does anyone have some insight or rumors on this one? If it does have the Merom it would be as closer to perfection as possible.
I will ask tomorrow as the local computer Asus reseller has an Asus technology show.![]()

This is a HUGE surpirse!
Ok first of all the V1J is spose to be released around june/july for European Countries.
For North America it will come August/September, it already has the Yonah in it.
There are 2 reasons why Intel would wanna acutally push the Conroe and Merom one full Quarter sooner.
1) Intel has taken a huge hit in Q1, and there's no way Intel is gonna make it up with the remaining Q2 and Q3 with the Yonah. Therefore they wanna release the Merom ASAP so that it can make some money FAST.
2) AMD is said to release Taylor in the summer, and Intel does not want to loose market share to a 64bit 2x Turion for no reason... hence Intel will throw the Merom at the Taylor. Merom of course will win.
3) Conroe is expected to beat all AMD desktop CPUS... PERIOD.. = more money for intel and regains the desktop market to compensate for the huge losses in Q1 of 2006.
Yes by having Dell push M$ to bring out Vista sooner is sorta good, 2006 as i said before is a bridge year in which the Yonah is just an ok cpu delivering above par performance. Hence sales are low all round.
With this push of Merom and conroe and push for Vista sooner, it will turn this bad year into a good year for Intel.
Now to get back to your question of V1J and Merom.. hmm... Intel would sorta have the opportunity to delay the V1J some more and put in a Merom. Thus alot of people would buy it, and should be available for X-mas.
If not...then V1J will stay on schedule and 6 months later.. roughly jan/feb, it will be released with Merom and Vista at a premium.
This is just my speculation, nothing is concrete.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,

Heh.
Yonah is just a ok CPU. I got to laugh at that. I mean it's on par with the FX-60 on just about every benchmark and overclocking it causes it to beat the FX60. I mean to me that is better then "just a ok CPU" -

I think INTC pushing out early and manufacturers like Dell showing the T5500/5600 early are likely. They both need the boost: http://www.marketwatch.com/News/Story/Story.aspx?guid=%7B5809C4AE%2D9210%2D4898%2D884A%2DFC1372C8AAB0%7D&source=blq%2Fyhoo&dist=yhoo&siteid=yhoo

...this must be a painful year for the whole supply chain. All the ASUS models I wanted to see are still vapor. -

I just keep repeating this mantra in my head:
"If you keep looking for the next big thing, you'll never enjoy what you have now (or have SOON in my case)". -
ahh.. ignorance is indeed bliss.
imagine never knowing what a merom is till you're forced to get another computer in 3 - 4 years time.
say in 2010, "heya peeps, my w3j has been reliable but all the 64bit compatibility stuff on recent software is making things a lil complicated. any recomm on a good notebook? say what? merom? whassat?" -
in 2010 you could pick up a merom for twenty bucks probably and throw it in the w3j since its pin compatible.
-
lol. good point.. merom will probably be just as (or almost) obsolete..

We await...
V1J and Merom.
