So the other day my 2 year old daughter comes up to me and hands me two items: the space bar and 'L' key off my V1JP. Bless her little heart.

Anyway, the space bar went back on fine, but the little white bracket on the bottom of the L key is broken on the top, so it only clips in on the bottom. What the best way to get a replacement key? Talk to Asus?

On a separate note - any news on the crappy battery problem?

Asus hasn't done anything yet on the battery problem. I have a V6j, and I am at less than 25% of my actual battery life. I feel your pain. If it is a big enough problem, you can order a new keyboard, either from the Asus Parts store (google for it, or search on the forums here, I have provided links before), or from the person you bought the computer from.

Yeah, I don't think anybody will have a replacement key, only a replacement keyboard. :)

If you think it just broke and your system is still under warrenty just get a replacement?

    Just a thought.

Unless she broke it and you feel bad about it.

Well it's kind of difficult to get it replaced under warranty because it's obviously physical damage... but you can try. They might even send a keyboard in advance such that you only have to change the keyboard w.o sending in the notebook.

I called asus support and explained exactly what happened. They are sending me a new keyboard and a new battery, but I have to send in my old keyboard and battery first.

I guess I'll be without the laptop for a while, but I should be able to work around that.

I was very impressed with their service.

Now I just need to figure out how to take the keyboard out...

Most Asus notebooks - I'm just not sure about the V1 - have clip releases above the keyboard (in the crease on the LCD side, you can usually see them if you tilt the chassis back and look). Pop those with a paperclip or credit card, remove the keyboard, pull the connecting ribbon. Assemble in reverse.
