Hi, I purchased an Atheros miniPCIe card to replace the Intel WM3945ABG on my V1Jp. However, I opened all three covers in the back of the laptop and the miniPCIe is nowhere to be seen. I even downloaded the video on the "video and review videos" post, but it is not seen neither (or I don't know exactly where to look at). Does anybody know where the miniPCIe is exactly located in an Asus V1Jp??
Thanks,
Alex.

its deep within the notebook under the palm rest. forget it. this is not a user upgrade i wouldnt even try if i were you unless you are feeling adventurous. a 5 min job for someone who has done it before a 2 hour adventure to some one who has not even with proper research. keep what you have

What's wrong with the Intel card?
-
There's nothing wrong with it. I too prefer Atheros given the choice. Generally their connections are better.

the range on the 3945 is very poor.
I plan on doing this also. It should be like a 1 minute job on the a8js, you can see the card under the large panel. -
Well, I personally had a bit of a trouble with the Intel, you can read about it here.
I mitigated the problem by installing the complete set of Intel PROSet software, but wireless would still fail now and then, last time it did was 3 days ago.
So, I think the Intel sucks because:
- Have to install PROSet. Why use extra software, consuming extra resources, with no advantage over the original WinXP wireless manager?
- Poor range.
- Poor Linux support
Geared2play, advice taken, thanks. However, I'm an electronic technician, have the tools and I do feel adventurous in this field. I just wanted to know the location so I don't have to disassemble the whole notebook looking for the wireless. I'd appreciate any more specific directions you can give me.
Thanks,
Alex. -
I've been able to see the board, as Eddie said is right under the right palm rest. To reach it I would need to remove the top cover, which seems to be a sinlge pieces that goes under the keyboard as well. I removed the keyboard, the optical drive, and all the screws, but the top cover would not let go. It's free at the corners, but it seems to be glued or something about an inch from the screen latches and towards the center. Maybe there are more latches and I need to somehow slide the top cover to free it?
Anybody? Justin?
