Wondering if the hdmi (udvi) port can input into the laptop, as well as ouput.
Or is it just for output only?

That would be handy, but I don't think so.
When plugging in VGA and DVI monitors to the system, the DVI for the LCD and the DVI for the external monitor appears as two distinct DVI outputs. That means they're not physically wired together, meaning zero chances of the screen ever acting independent of the video card.
There's no capture software either, so having it work as an input like a capture card doesn't work either.
And there wouldn't be any way to turn off the CPU and leaving the monitor on.
I guess that would have to go on the wishlist. It would sure make for an excellent technician's laptop otherwise (if the client's monitor was defective, or if they bring you the tower only). -
Just notice : DVI and HDMI are totally different.

Quoted from your Wikipedia link:
"HDMI is backward-compatible with the single-link Digital Visual Interface carrying digital video (DVI-D or DVI-I, but not DVI-A) used on modern computer monitors and graphics cards. This means that a DVI-D source can drive an HDMI monitor, or vice versa, by means of a suitable adapter or cable, but the audio and remote control features of HDMI will not be available."
There is also a larger HDMI connector/cable that can works with dual-link. -
Also, V1J comes with a uDVI (HDMI) to DVI adapter. You can also buy cables which are HDMI <-> DVI (no audio) which also do this, but whatever you do, don't buy any sort of HDMI/DVI cable that is > 10 feet unless they're properly shielded and have ferrite beads on each end. At 15 feet, the signal degradation is bad enough that you'll get digital noise on your screen (ex: I got red flecks flying across my screen at 768p on my LCD HDTV).
V1Jp screen to allow input?
