    Steve,

Asus never gives that info unless it's something no one laptop really has... I can tell you that the V1 screen in my eyes is identical that on the new G1, which is what most people have been getting on the W1j around the world for the last 9-10 months.... It's a nice display, certainly brighter than your W2v. The only bad thing about that screen was at the time they didn't have anything brighter - now they put the dual lamps in the 17" screens and they're about as bright as the 15.4"s now. The 15.4"s are also faster than 17"s ever were, but now they're catching up... so without giving you white paper specs, I can tell you that it's faster and brighter - at this point I hope you can trust my opinion on that.

Thanks Justin, that's helpful. Oh, and hey, remember when I spilled some Diet Dr. Pepper on my W2V back in August? Well, it's still chugging away! the CD drive doesn't work, but everything else is fine. I just bought an external drive, which should hold me over for a while....

No kidding.. well you must have done a good job at soaking it up before it hit the motherboard!

Justin. could you check on this and let us know if they in fact do use the same screen? Someone here on the forum said that the G1 has a 500 nit screen. I can't say for sure if this is fact or just a number someone made up, but, everyone has great things to say about the G1 screen (unlike the A8js) If the V1 uses the same screen, it may be a better option cause it's REAL carbon fiber. I also like the spill proof keyboard and fingerprint reader.

    RN,

The V1 uses carbon fiber for a structural purpose, not exposed...... just so you know... all W and V models do..... The special edition W1 carbon was the only one that used it for a visual effect... but yes, that's what I've been saying...

Now, about the screen.. the G2 (17") has 500 nit brightness and 8ms response...... That's basically the first screen Asus has ever given that information out on... they haven't for the G1. I've seen them side by side and they look awfully similiar.... and I've been around these long enough that I can see a difference in manufacturer on the same model notebook...

You can request a V1jp owner to download and run Everest Home edition (which is free, but takes some time to download), which would tell you the exact model of lcd, HD, optical drive, etc your laptop is using.. i.e AUO #####, LG ####, etc.. then you can look on the manufacturer's site for technical specifications (although not all of the LCD makers have them listed).
