Just wondering if anyone knows of any fully loaded 15.4 Asus laptops that have a lower resolution than 1680 X 1050? I love everything about this machine, it's powerful yet still light and has HDMI, which is important to me. But I do spend at least 5 hours a day answering e-mail and reading articles which frankly would suck at that high resolution.
I returned a Sony FZ because I was dissapointed with the 8400 card, the Dell 1520 doesn't have HDMI, the HP 8510 seems to be hard to find and the new Acer is over 7lbs. My budget is over $2K so I'm pretty flexible. Just hoping that one of you fine folks could recommend something in the Asus line.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

You would be surprised how easy on the eye WSXGA+ is, I used to use WXGA and now looking back at it it just seems blurry and ridiculously large, You can also turn up the DPI setting in vista to make text larger.

Hello Seth
I don't have the greatest eyesight either. However I have gotten used to the text size on the Asus V1s. It really isn't that bad when you start to use it.
Here are a couple of pictures from the upcoming review of my Asus V1s that I am selling.
Sorry, I am not too good at taking pictures. The screen isn't grainy like that in the second photo.

Thanks guys...I'm going to go over to a B & M store here in Manhattan and check out a few laptops tomorrow

F3sv-A1 probably.. B1 has a higher resolution. X1 and X2 lacks wireless-n.
Closest thing to V1s you'd get, I think. -
it all depends on the person, i personally wouldnt get a 1680x1050 res 15" because i'm still young and dont want to f-up my vision, and i am speaking from experience of using one. im studying architecture so the extra res would definately be a plus but end of the day i do use my laptop for more than just that.
although i do think that you can get use to them; to a point.
the f3sv's are a lot nicer than i thought they'd be and the price is quite decent. -
1680x1050, even on a 15'' won't look like 1680x1050 on a 1280x800 screen for exemple.
I used to be on a 17'' 800x600 CRT and when I put it into 1024x768. it was like OMFG IT'S SO SMALLL!!!! My eyes wanted to die.
Now on my 19'' 1280x1024, it looks bigger than on 800x600 on the CRT -
The text size is fine, and you can always turn the DPI up in windows, make the icons bigger etc. I used to use a 19" monitor set at 1024 x 768, and now if I use it it's like, "OMG, IT'S SO BLURRY AND HUGE!!!" Mess up your vision? I don't see how that's a problem. As long as you aren't straining (and I'm not...) how would a higher res mess up your vision?

I second (third, forth, whatever
) the idea of changing the DPI and font sizes.
Too-high-resolution, in itself, is almost a non-issue I would say, because of these settings.
However usually higher resolution in the same form factor means worse screen quality. But that's another thing. -
Just out of curiosity, if I were to pick up a 1280x800 15.4" screen... would it be possible to put that into my G1S?

I am staring at my V1S WSXGA+ screen all day and I love it.
I don't have any problem with the resolution. I don't even need to use the zoom or DPI function.
V1S (or similar) with Lower Resolution?
