I'm looking for a cost-concious option to get my V1S from 2 GB of ram to 4. Any ideas? Can I sell my 2x 1GB sticks?

Yes, you can definitely sell your 2x1gb ram (probably about ~$20). Try selling them on the forum, craigslist or ebay.

Lucky for you if you are not looking for the best dual channel ram you can get some very low cost ram on newegg!

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...E&N=2030260381 1309121118&bop=And&Order=PRICE

Even if you want really good stuff $50 should get you a great brand with good quality!!!

I upgraded from 3gigs of ram to 4 in dual channel with my Asus and will never look back!

Noticed the improvement, but of course when i did it ram dropped about half the cost when I bought it lol :(

adamd: Thanks for the link! Cheaper than anywhere I've seen so far. What kind of ram fits in a V1S? will any DDR2 do? can I use DDR2 800?

The V1S has the PM965 chipest, hence the ram speed is limited to 667mhz. You can still use still DDR2 800mhz ram, however, your system will automatically downclock to 667mhz. I'd stick with 667 ram since they are usually cheaper and will have no advantages over 800 in your circumstance.

Yes, that will work just fine, BUT, do you really need a 4 CAS latency timing? It's significantly more expensive compared to 5 CAS such as THIS. You probably won't notice any performance differences between the two.

On another note, make sure you have a 64bit operating system. If you have a 32bit, your laptop will only recognize and utilize 3gb of ram. In that case, you could just buy one stick of 2gb ram and just replace one of your 1gb sticks in your system.

For $8, the CAS latency difference is something I'm willing to try :D.

And don't worry, I sat through enough Games for Windows seminars to realize the woes of a 32-bit address space. been running x64 since day 1 :D

    Thanks again, everyone.
