I've just updated my V1S to BIOS 208, and upon restart Vista wanted to load a driver for a new device. Anyone else had this?
-
No. Mine did not show any new devices or anything else.
-
I'm wondering if it's related to the Intel AMT - do you have yours enabled and the software installed?
-
The software is installed but it is disabled.
I remember someone saying something about an issue with the AMT after installing the new Bios. Don't know what is was exactly. -
Hmm - oh well, it's not a problem, it's just bugging me slightly...
-
its AMT, AMT does actually have a driver on the Driver CD, it appears under the device manager, AMT is disabled by default under 206, and enabled under 208, hence why its now appearing.
-
It was enabled on mine when I got it, but I disabled it - as you say though, 208 turns it back on and, rather more annoyingly, you can't turn it off again.
-
I emailed Asus this morning asking how, It adds quite a long time to my boot time, And serves absolutely no purpose at all
-
u can turn it off, press ctrl+p during both when prompted by the intel ATM extended bios, the default password is "admin" you will have to change it once you enter the extended bios and then you have the option to "disable" then the computer will reboot...enter the extended bios again to make sure its disabled, you will now becuase u wont be able to access the other features there anymore...
also as for the driver promp, it only does it once when the computer 1st reboots, and nothing shows in the device manager, also it doesnt show back up upon another reboot...
hope ive been of help -
It rejects any new password i try to enter.

Does this BIOS have any options for battery calibration? I asked ASUS about the media bay battery problem I was having, and they replied to use the battery calibration utility in the BIOS. Unfortunately, there is no such option in my BIOS for that (unless I am completely misunderstanding their response).
-
It wouldn't allow me to change my password either.
-
i figured it out. The password needs to have at least 7 characters, letters and numbers AND a symbol (! @ # etc.)
-
yup u may even need to have Upper and Lower case too
some!ThinG!like that... -
heh, shame they couldnt tell me that when I rang asus support yesterday, They said I would have to bring it in to fix it, Ill wait before I get bigger issues first.

I've put the CD driver in when the new device was asked to be reinstalled and everything went smooth. Intel Active Managment tech was reinstalled automatically. It seems to be a required after updating the bios to 208.
