A couple of days ago I sucessfully updated my V1S bios to version 208.

Today I noticed version 209 was available so I downloaded it, and tried the update exactly as before via easy flash within the bios and I keep getting an error saying something like "Unable to read contents of the rom package"

I re-downloaded the update and tried a further three times.

Any had or solved this problem.

    Thanks

    I never got this problem.

Another option is to try using WinFlash from Windows or AFlash from DOS. See my guide linked in my signature for a procedure on how to use those.

Maybe the file on the ASUS ftp server is corrupt... In that case it's not a good idea to try writing it again. Maybe it's best to try again in a few days.

Thanks for the reply and as you suggest I will try in a few days.

Before your post however I did try to downgrade to the original bios version of 206 but got the same error. Again I was using easy flash via bios.

Agree with EBE - sounds like maybe a corrupt file. One thing to keep in mind - Asus' engineers often play with the thermal management in BIOS updates, not always for the better (they often lower the limits), so if you're sensitive to this issue and the 209 doesn't hold anything you need consider skipping it.

You can't use simple flash to go to older BIOS. In order to back-date you need to use the 'no date' option -- search around here and you should find the code for it.

try downloading it from an alternate server , ie usa or taiwan
Also make sure to change the name from whatever it is to something like v1s.rom

The bold thing is incorrect, the EasyFlash tool does not check for dates (at least in my version for the V6J).

I actually think renaming to .ROM is a good suggestion, maybe that flash tool only recognizes .ROM files.

You should try winflash with /nodate if trying to downgrade, or the DOS tool. see my BIOS guide.

Thank Guys for the info. I have tried from a different server. I will try dos & winflash when I get home.

I'm hoping the 208 version I updated to isn't screwed.

    Thanks again

Hi, I updated my bios from the original one that came on the machine to version 208 and since then my vista ultimate has been unable to validate itself has anyone else had this issue? I also updated to version 209 and this didn't solve the problem either?

I just upgraded my G1 bios to 209 yesterday without problem. I downloaded it from the Asus website yesterday. The only reason I updated was in hopes of fixing some minor issues I was having which this updated bios may or may not address. Otherwise I would not have bothered.
