    Hi all,
Just recently I noticed problems with my V1S card reader. Initially I thought the problem was with the card I was using but the card works in all memory stick devices I have plus work just fine on 2 other notebooks.

I have tried different cards in my V1S but none are working.

Everytime I insert a card I get a dialog box telling me the card needs to be formatted but everytime the format fails, yet the cards work in every other device I have.

I uninstalled the card reader using device manager, downloaded the vista 32bit ricoh card reader driver and re-installed the driver, re-started my notebook and the problem is still happening.

Can anyone offer any advice, I really would appreciate it.

    Thanks

After searching the net it seems that this problem with my card reader could well be a result of installing Vista SP1.

The only way to find out I guess is to wipe my notebook, install Vista, test the card reader, install SP1 and test the reader again.

Has anyone else had any similar probs following SP1?

    Thanks.

There's another way to test. Boot into Live Linux, see if the cards are read there. Problem is, I'm not sure that the card reader will work in any version of linux.

Did you try removing the card reader drivers and installing them again? Maybe they just got messed up in the process of installing SP1.

I did un-install the drivers but that didn't sort the problem.

I think i'll try to un-install SP1 and if that doesn't work i'll wipe my machine clean.

I can't believe the problems SP1 have caused. I know loads of people who couldn't see sp1 as an available download because of driver issues - It seems that even if it does appear on windows update it could still be responsable for screwing stuff up.

I'm gonna get on with trying to identify the issue, I very much doubt that the card reader would function under linux but I really do appreciate the suggestion as honestly I don't have a clue whats going on yet.

I wish I had something helpful for you, but my card reader works fine. I use it a lot, vista sp1, and linux (I dual boot). I'm writing to SD and microSD (using an adapter). FWIW I have a V1S-B1, writing this on linux (lspci shows the ricoh SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro host adatper)

Coolnquiet, I have F8N but it doesn't make difference I think.
Firstly, I have no problem with card reader and MS-duo out of digital camera (not new one)
Secondly, I had similar problem with new external HD connected via USB.
I made it work going to 'manage' /'disk management'. I think you got the rest.
Hope it will work for you
