Yes, I know that there's already a thread called V1S battery Wear Problem, but it has gotten kinda big and messy, so this thread is for problems regarding use of the modular battery.
I had read about others having problems with the modular battery, but last week I decided to get one anyway. "Worst case, I'll have to send it back." I thought...
I started this thread so others will be aware as well.
Thursday 18th: The first problem I encountered was the main battery not working (neither charging or emiting power) while the modular battery was connected (even if it had no power).
I decided to keep the battery as it can come handy on longer times without ac, and wait for a BIOS update fixing the problem.
Saturday 20th: I use the computer with both batteries attached, and right before the modular battery flattens, I turn if of, take out the modular battery and turn it of again. Works "like a charm"...
Sunday 21st: The primary battery shows up with 26% power in the Windows battery monitor, and although it says "charging", the battery does not gain power. This is even with the modular battery NOT connected.
The modular battery was still working fine, so I asumed I would have to send in the primary battery, and in the meantime have just an hour of battery life.
Thursday 25th (today): Called Asus Nordic support and chose Service -> Laptops -> Norwegian on the automated system. A man greets me in Norwegian, and I tell him about the problem (in Norwegian). The guy then ask me "Could you please tell me what's your problem?" in english. I get a little upset, but as my english is fairly good, I start all over again. He seems to have some problems understanding what I say, but he tells me that I'll have to return both my computer and the batteries. Damn. As I just sent my other laptop (other brand) to service, this will leave me with no computer.
I asked him if they really had to take the computer as well, and he told me that they needed to examine it.
but it's when I try to spell my e-mail adress that I get really mad at Asus "Norwegian" support. The guy couldn't even spell in english. I tell as clear as possible. "B" "E", and he interpreted it as "D" "A". Then he asks me "Sir, can you please right down your name on a note, and then spell it to me?" I told him that I already had it written down, but what I meant was ofcourse "WHAT THE HECK!!! ARE YOU SAYING I CANNOT SPELL MY OWN NAME???"
I really hope that the process goes smoother from here on, and that I never have to call Asus again. If so, I'd rather call the english hotline...

Yep, modular V1S battery is known to kill the main battery, no questions asked...
I think it's best to just return the modular battery, RMA the main battery (not the entire computer), and be done with it until ASUS releases a BIOS update that fixes this issue (which may very well never happen). -

guys just read what i have wrote somwhere dont really remember where about what problems i had with my V1s B1 then you will probably understand that its just a whole lots of DUds with name v1s
my problems didnt reach the battery!
but after "examining" the laptop
probably with Famous "ASUS repair KIT"(can google it very funny)
they concluded :
main board goes to bin
main screen goes to bin
power supply goes to bin
LCD cable goes to bin
they plan to replace all parts instead of exchanging it for new 1 and or refunding me! strange as it may seem.
????whats left?, and can i trust it? remains a mistery...

Well, if they replace them what's the problem? You probably got a "lemon" unit, as they call it... It happens.
As far as I know there are no other major problems with V1S except this modular battery thing. -
Easier for them to change the guts for all new stuff than trust the old stuff. If they're paying for it, by all means. It really isn't rocket science to take it apart and put it back together again, since these things are designed for that sort of thing.
As far as completely replacing it, the trouble is:
a) going the new replacement route, they can't resell the one you got back as new since it someone already used it and the degree of use is never certain, so they can't make it policy,
b) the serial number on the unit has a date code built-in plus tolerance for sale, so it's expected that this unit is out on store shelves and sold within three months of being manufactured, and
c) if they went the service refurb route for better service (if they were forced to take back and exchange the whole unit), it would mean they'd give you a laptop right away (simple enough to take the HDD and swap it), but the frame would have belonged to someone else. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have MY frame with MY germs (plus some of the tech who repaired it, at worst) back rather than the frame that belonged to someone else who had been coughing on it for the last 6+ months that I don't know. -
My V1S is in California now... gonna ring them tomorrow and see what they're up to...

Well they said it should be done with repair on Monday and in my hands Tuesday afternoon... I'll keep y'all posted.
